The Subaru WRX STI Starts The New Year Where It Finished - Fast

The 2021 Subaru WRX and WRX STI arrive in March. Before the new models hit showrooms, the sports cars start the new year where they finished 2020.

The 2021 Subaru WRX and 2021 WRX STI are scheduled to make their dealer launch this March. Before they arrive, the 2020 model year sport-tuned Subaru WRX and performance-tuned WRX STI start the new year where they left off. Subaru of America reports the WRX and STI were up 11.2 percent in January. Subaru delivered 1,555 models to customers compared with 1,399 in January 2020.

In a year that saw considerable challenges for Subaru, the WRX and STI were a bright spot for Subaru of America in 2020 and had 21,178 vehicle sales compared with 21,838 for 2019. They could have sold more, but supplies were limited due to plant closures at Subaru Corporation’s Gunma factory in Japan.

The two performance cars are not slowing down and were one of four Subaru nameplates that were up in January. WRX and STI were up 11.2 percent, Crosstrek increased 28.3 percent, Outback improved 3.6 percent, and BRZ was up 45.5 percent in January. Forester, Impreza, Legacy, and Ascent all dropped to start the new year.

The good news for performance car buyers is the 2021 Subaru WRX, and WRX STI won’t get much of a price increase. The 2021 WRX starting price remains the same, while the 2021 WRX STI gets a small price increase of $250.

We expect the 2021 model year change to sell well and be in strong demand as they were in 2020. We don’t know how the microchip shortage will affect the production of the 2021 WRX and STI. You can read more about it in the report below.

Subaru could bring a 2021 Final Edition WRX and WRX STI to finish this generation before next-generation models arrive. Look for them to be revealed this summer with a fall 2021 launch if Subaru Corporation offers a final model. The 2021 Subaru WRX and 2021 Subaru WRX STI arrive at Subaru retailers in March.
