Subaru WRX Is In One Hot New Sports Car's Rearview Mirror, But Not By Much

How successful is the 2023 Subaru WRX for Subaru of America? The next-generation WRX sport-tuned performance sedan outsells all other sports cars in North America except for one hot new model.

A recent report from GoodCarBadCar reveals the sport-tuned 2023 Subaru WRX is in high demand and is the second-fastest-selling new sports car. So how does the Subaru WRX compare in sales with all other sporty models? In the first quarter of 2023, the WRX has outperformed all other sports cars in North America, except for the new mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette.

Subaru of America reported the next-generation 2023 Subaru WRX was up 1,373 percent in March, with 3,005 performance models delivered to customers. The WRX had another significant increase over last March 2022, when it only had 204 sales because Subaru Corporation switched to the new model. The WRX is now up 1221.0 percent in the first three months.

The WRX is closing in on the compact sports car segment lead. The Chevrolet Corvette is number one with 7,904 sales, and Subaru WRX is next with 7,609 models delivered in the first quarter. After the top two sports cars, model sales drop off.

The Audi A5 is next with 5,598 sales, Mazda MX-5 Miata (2,590), Toyota GR86 (2,038), Porsche Taycan (1,864), BMW 2-Series (1,383), Subaru BRZ (985), Toyota Supra (871), Nissan 370Z (466), Lexus RC (380), and Infiniti Q60 (374).

Honda does not split out the Civic Type R from regular Civic sales, so we can't provide specific numbers. The same is true of the Volkswagen Golf R.

With a starting MSRP of $31,625, including destination, the WRX is arguably America's best sports car value. The 2023 Corvette Stingray coupe in 1LT trim has a starting MSRP of $61,900, not including the destination charge.

What is the price of the 2023 WRX?

The 2023 WRX 6-speed manual trim level starts at $31,625. The WRX with Subaru Performance Transmission (SPT) is $33,475, the WRX Premium 6-speed manual is $34,125, the WRX Premium SPT is $36,175, the WRX Limited 6-speed manual is $38,515, WRX Limited SPT is $40,765, and WRX GT is $44,415. Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,020).

The sport-tuned 2023 Subaru WRX is in high demand with performance enthusiasts and is the second-best-selling sports car in America in the first quarter of 2023. The WRX is closing in on the lead.
