How popular is the 2024 Subaru Outback? The Outback needs a remodel, but it's not stopping customers from buying the midsize SUV before the next-generation model arrives. Check the performance with shoppers and what's coming next for the Outback.

Should you buy the 2024 Subaru Outback now or wait for the next-generation 2025 model year? According to research from Edmunds, the 2024 Outback is the most popular new SUV among all Subaru models. I cover the Edmunds ranking monthly, and the Outback surged in popularity in the new year.

Last month, in my report, the Outback was ranked number 23 in Edmunds' most popular models list. The Outback is now in January's top ten most-researched new cars.

Where do other Subaru models rank?

The hot 2024 Subaru Forester is number 20 on the most popular models list, the Subaru Crosstrek is number 25, and the Subaru Soltarra in the top ten last month is not found in the top 50 models.

Which Outback is the hot pick?

The most popular Outback is the Outback Wilderness. But that doesn't mean everyone is buying the outdoor-themed trim level. Customers with the most active lifestyles are checking out the Wilderness upgrades. It comes with extra ground clearance, suspension upgrades, and under-body protection. What's next for the 2025 Outback?

The 2025 Subaru Outback is expected to get a remodel, but Subaru of America has yet to released the details. I said in a previous report that the next-generation Outback will come with updated exterior styling, interior, infotainment, and improved safety features. But there's a lot more coming for customers.

MY TAKE

I think that Subaru will launch the all-new 2025 Outback with a hybrid powertrain. This is speculation on my part as Subaru is historically tight-lipped about future product plans, and the automaker has made no announcements about the 2025 Outback. 

I have written before that the Outback needs a hybrid powertrain to compete with the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Ford Explorer Hybrid, and Jeep Grand Cherokee Hybrid.

We know the 2025 Forester will get a new hybrid trim level, so it would make sense for Subaru to do the same with the next-generation Outback. As I've reported before, a fuel-stingy 2025 Subaru Outback Hybrid could be the model to propel the vehicle further ahead. Stay tuned, and I will bring you the 2025 Subaru Outback details when Subaru of America makes the announcement. 

The Subaru Outback is ready for a remodel, but it's not deterring customers from shopping for the 2024 model year midsize SUV. The Outback is among the top ten most popular models in the new year.
