The New Subaru Impreza RS And What You Get Besides More Power

The all-new Subaru Impreza RS trim arrives now. What do you get besides more power? Check out the new upgrades here.

The sixth-generation 2024 Subaru Impreza arrives now at U.S. retailers. The all-new 2024 Impreza RS is the top trim level, but what do you get besides more power?

The RS comes with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated Boxer engine upgrade with 182 horsepower and 178 ft lbs of torque. The 2.5-liter retuned engine in the new RS trim is also a proven Subaru Boxer engine with excellent reliability.

The 2024 Subaru Impreza Base and Sport trims have a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder direct-injection engine, producing 152 horsepower and 145 lb.-ft. of torque.

The RS also has a sport-tuned suspension upgrade, bigger brakes, 18-inch alloy wheels, and SI-Drive. The 2.5-liter engine is mated with a Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission featuring an 8-speed manual mode with steering wheel paddle shifters.

SI-Drive changes the car's driving characteristics, so "I" is for Intelligent providing a more gradual acceleration, and "S" is for Sport mode offering a sharper peak throttle response with improved acceleration.

The RS also has a dual-pinion electronic steering rack similar to the WRX, giving an upgraded steering feel. The RS comes standard with Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system for all-weather and light off-pavement capabilities.

What is the Impreza RS fuel mileage?

With the newly-retuned 2.5-liter Boxer engine, the Impreza RS has an EPA-estimated fuel mileage rating of 26/33 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg.

Subaru dropped the sedan body style and went with the hatchback body style only. Subaru sold about 73 percent of the previous generation models in hatchbacks, so it made perfect sense to drop the sedan.

RS has exclusive styling upgrades, setting it apart from the Sport and Base trim levels. The RS badge is on the rear and the front doors. There are black cloth seats with red stitching and red trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching, a leather shifter, RS badging on the floor carpets, and aluminum pedals with rubber grips.

The Impreza also gets improved front seats like the next-generation Crosstrek. Check the new seat report here.

RS has a new 11.6-inch tablet-style touchscreen display and comes standard with a wireless phone charging pad and dynamic ventilation climate control that blows heat or cold air on the seats with passengers. It works automatically with sensors in the seats.

RS comes with the upgraded next-generation EyeSight with a third monocular sensor for improved pedestrian and cyclist detection.

What is the price of the Impreza RS?

The all-new 2024 Impreza RS hatch with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine has a starting price of $28,975. Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,090).

The RS has an available option package that includes a power sunroof, a Harmon Kardon 10-speaker system, and a 10-way power driver's seat with newly added lumbar support. The option package is an additional $2,070.

The 2024 Subaru Impreza RS will have 30 more horsepower and 33 more lb-ft of torque for driving enthusiasts. For an additional $2,890 more than the Sport trim, you'll get a hot RS hatch trim with other upgrades worth the cost.
