The Subaru Impreza did not recover after Subaru put a separation between the Impreza compact car and the Impreza WRX. Subaru Corporation dropped the Impreza name from the WRX in 2015, and Impreza has declined in popularity and sales ever since.
Now, the all-new next-generation 2024 Impreza has a new identity with a complete remodel and a new retuned 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine under the hood. And even better, the Japanese automaker dropped the sedan body style, and now the Impreza only comes in a hatchback body style.
Both were good moves by Subaru and even better for customers. With the new 2.5-liter engine upgrade, the all-new Impreza RS will be the hot hatch Subaru needs to fill out Subaru of America's all-wheel-drive lineup. It's been missing since Subaru dropped the WRX hatch in 2015.
The 2024 Subaru Impreza will have improved ride quality, advanced safety technology, improved fuel mileage, and new tech inside.
If customers opt for the 2024 Impreza RS, they'll get a 2.5-liter Boxer engine with 182 horsepower and 178 ft lbs of torque. In addition, the RS has a sport-tuned suspension, bigger brakes, 18-inch alloy wheels, and SI-Drive. The 2.5-liter engine is mated with a Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission featuring an 8-speed manual mode with steering wheel paddle shifters.
Unfortunately, Subaru dropped the 5-speed manual gearbox from the entire Impreza lineup for 2024. But all trims now come standard with Subaru's EyeSight suite of safety technology.
What is the price of the 2024 Impreza?
The 2024 Subaru Impreza Base hatchback starts at $24,085, the Sport hatch starts at $26,085, and the all-new RS hatch with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine has a starting price of $28,975. Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,090).
How much did prices increase?
The completely remodeled 2024 Impreza offers exceptional value. The Base hatchback price increased by $1,470. The Sport trim level price dropped $30, and the RS is all new for 2024, so there's no previous generation model for comparison. Dealer fees increased by $70.
Note that even though the Sport trim price dropped, most customers will purchase the Sport trim with the option package. The Impreza Sport option package includes a power moonroof, blind-spot detection with lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert, and the all-weather package for an MSRP of $1,900.
The new RS trim option package includes a Harman Kardon 10-speaker system with a 432-watt equivalent amplifier, power moonroof, and 10-way power front driver seat with lumbar support for an MSRP of $2,070.
Subaru of America needed the all-new 2024 Impreza RS to fill out its all-wheel-drive lineup. So now Subaru has the hot hatch ready to launch the Impreza compact nameplate to new heights.
The new sixth-generation 2024 Impreza hot hatch arrives at U.S. retailers this spring. However, customers should know that the new Impreza will now be manufactured in Japan, not the U.S. factory. As a result, it could take longer for new models to arrive than before.
