New Subaru Impreza, Performance Or Fuel Mileage? You Can Have Both With One Trim

The 2024 Subaru Impreza arrives now and offers performance or good fuel mileage. Can you have both? Only one new Impreza trim level provides the best of both.

Do you want good fuel mileage or more performance? The all-new next-generation 2024 Subaru Impreza is here now. Impreza now comes paired with only three trim levels for compact hatchback customers, and Subaru made it simple to choose. Only one trim level is best for new model shoppers who want good fuel mileage and performance.

Here are your choices. The 2024 Impreza comes in three trim levels for U.S. customers, the Base, Sport, and new RS.

The 2024 Subaru Impreza RS is the best value trim

2024 Subaru Impreza pricing

The 2024 Subaru Impreza Base hatchback starts at $24,085, the Sport hatch starts at $26,085, and the all-new RS hatch with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine starts at $28,975. Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,090).

You don't want the Base trim because it doesn't offer goodies like SI-Drive (performance mode), 8-speed CVT with steering wheel shifters, 4-wheel independent suspension, ventilated front, and rear disc brakes, heated front seats, keyless access with push-button start, front and rear USB-A and USB-C input and charging ports, or 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus touchscreen.

2024 Subaru Impreza RS offers performance and good fuel mileage

And that's not the complete list of things missing from the 2024 Impreza Base trim level. When you go to sell or trade in the model, it will be worth less than the other trims.

The 2024 Subaru Impreza Sport trim has a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder direct-injection engine, producing 152 horsepower and 145 lb.-ft. of torque. A Lineartronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) is standard on both trim levels. The engine is a proven engine and has excellent reliability. But it won't offer superior performance.

The new 2024 Subaru Impreza RS upgrades to a 2.5-liter Boxer engine with 182 horsepower and 178 ft lbs of torque. The 2.5-liter retuned engine in the new RS trim is also a proven Subaru Boxer engine with excellent reliability. The extra 30 horsepower will make the Impreza RS hatch a sporty, fun car. And you will only sacrifice a little in fuel mileage.

With the newly-retuned 2.5-liter Boxer engine, the Impreza RS has an EPA-estimated fuel mileage rating of 26/33 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg.

The 2024 Impreza 2.0-liter engine gets slightly better fuel mileage and has an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 27/34 city/highway mpg and 30 combined mpg.

The 2024 Subaru Impreza RS adds the 2.5-liter engine and all the above extra goodies.

The RS trim also comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with a dark gray finish, windshield wiper de-icer and heated side mirrors (All-Weather Package), a 10-way power adjustable driver's seat (optional), RS cloth upholstery with red accents, aluminum alloy pedal covers, six speakers, and Harman Kardon premium audio system (optional).

Why would anyone buy the Base or Sport over the new 2024 Subaru Impreza RS trim level? The new RS offers many premium features, 30 additional horsepower, and doesn't sacrifice fuel mileage for improved performance.

It's well worth the extra $4,000 to get the best of what the new Impreza offers. And it's an exceptional value in the compact hatch category under $30,000.
