In the Subcompact Crossovers/SUV category, Car and Driver says the new 2019 Crosstrek is one of the best available today. Subaru completely redesigned Crosstrek for the 2018 model year and it gets a refresh for 2019. It’s the hottest Subaru in their lineup with strong sales gains every month since the major overhaul. It’s now in its second-generation after launching as a new model in 2012.

In the competitive Subcompact Crossovers/SUV category, the new Subaru Crosstrek earns the award along with the BMW X1, Hyundai Kona, Kia Soul, Mazda CX-3, and Volvo XC40. Car and Driver editors consider these to be the best subcompact vehicles for 2018, and they say, “We wholeheartedly recommend these vehicles to buyers shopping in this category.”

How did they choose the vehicles?

C&D used a wide range of criteria pulling the results from their Buyer’s Guide in-depth testing, how a vehicle performed at their test track, “or just old-fashioned subjective desirability.”

Here’s why they chose the new Subaru Crosstrek crossover. They picked the small SUV for its rugged styling and standard all-wheel drive. They like the high-riding body with 8.7-inches of ground clearance that has appeal to adventurous types. They also liked Crosstrek’s solid handling, good build quality, and an impressive array of available safety and infotainment tech.

Which model?

C&D says to opt for the 2.0i Premium model ($23,510) because it includes features such as heated front seats, fog lights, automatic headlights, and a six-speaker audio system. We’ve heard reports there’s high-demand and a 3-month wait for the new Subaru Crosstrek in Canada. Supplies for the popular crossover are better in the US.
