The Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV performance SUV will make its North American debut in LA and its technology will replace the outgoing 2015 Lancer Evolution. Why is Mitsubishi choosing to use this sports SUV to talk about their performance future? We won’t be seeing the latest example of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution at the LA Auto Show, but they will be talking about eco-performance as the brand is moving into the future with the Concept XR-PHEV. This vehicle will redefine how we look at performance vehicles.

Eco-performance is coming

There is a new term called eco-performance that is coming from the Japanese automaker. Mitsubishi will bring the new Concept XR-PHEV to the Los Angeles Auto Show for its North American debut to tell the world how they are designing a new future and it will include a new performance sports car. This technology will replace the outgoing 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution that has been the performance standard for the brand. But a new performance model will be coming from Mitsubishi.

The new eco-performance technology can be seen in the Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV that will make its North American debut this month in LA. Mitsubishi says the sporty SUV will come with an “optimally honed body that reveals sophisticated sensibility.” They say this new athletic SUV “creates driving pleasure with its whole body.” But what is eco-performance?

Eco-performance technology

From the outside, the new Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV comes with an attractive athletic body with dynamic front-to-side character lines. It will feature Mitsubishi’s newly developed FF-type Plug-in Hybrid EV System and will also come with a more advanced active safety technology. Mitsubishi says the new sports SUV will use Connected Car technology, that delivers excellent agility, safety and “eco-performance.” It’s being developed for a new generation of urban buyers who want a dynamic and spirited driving experience. This technology from the Japanese automaker has been developed in their high-performance race cars like the Outlander PHEV at the Asia Cross Country Rally 2014 and the MiEV Evolution III at Pikes Peak.

Mitsubishi will unveil the new Concept XR-PHEV performance SUV for North American buyers at the Los Angeles Auto Show that runs from November 20-30.
