Meet The New Subaru Brat Wilderness Pickup - You Can Only Look And Not Touch

Would you buy a compact 2024 Subaru Brat Wilderness if Subaru of America offered it? Or would a midsize four-door Subaru Baja Wilderness be a better choice? You make the pick.

Subaru of America still needs one new all-wheel-drive pickup to complete its all-wheel-drive lineup. Would you choose a new compact 2024 Brat Wilderness pickup or a midsize Baja Wilderness pickup?

The smaller Brat Wilderness or, the larger Baja Wilderness would be a big success for Subaru of America. Or better yet, why not build both trims?

Subaru of New England recently put the image of the Baja Wilderness on its Instagram page, saying, "You asked, we delivered." Of course, it was just an April fool's joke earlier this year, but the truth is often spoken in jest.

If only it were true. Subaru of New England said, "Introducing the all-new 2024 Baja Wilderness. Equipped with a 260 horsepower turbocharged Subaru Boxer engine, 9.2" of ground clearance, standard all-wheel drive, and up to 75 cubic feet of cargo space, the Subaru Baja Wilderness has everything you need for off-road adventures. So where will the 2024 Baja Wilderness take you?"

We found two Baja Wilderness images on Instagram showing the compact Brat Wilderness that would be a fun ride to play in the dirt.

The Subaru Brat pickup would be the hot new model to impact U.S. customers this year significantly. The image below from Battle Wagon Gang represents a desirable 2024 Subaru Brat Wilderness trim level. It's what outdoor enthusiasts want and what Subaru of America needs.

Of course, the all-new 2024 Subaru Baja Wilderness or Brat Wilderness pickup would feature the brand's core values of safety, fun-to-drive, all-wheel-drive, fuel-efficient, a low center of gravity, and dual-function X-Mode for all-terrain capability. In addition, the new Baja pickup would be extra rugged and ready to go further off the grid.
Both pickups would take customers further off-road to play in the dirt this summer. But, it would also raise Subaru of America to new heights in sales and give the Camden, N.J. automaker the missing vehicle in its all-wheel-drive lineup.

We can imagine an all-new 2024 Brat Wilderness with a 2.5-liter Boxer engine that powers the 2024 Crosstrek and 2024 Impreza RS. It produces 182 horsepower and 178 ft lbs of torque. The 2024 Subaru Baja Wilderness would get the 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer engine producing 260 horsepower.

The Brat and Baja pickups would lead the segment with extra ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and underbody protection for off-roaders. Subaru wouldn't be able to build them fast enough.

Subaru's new dual-function X-Mode system would be a perfect fit and a big hit with customers with active lifestyles who want to go further off-road. In addition, because the Subaru Global Platform provides model flexibility between the Subaru of Indiana Automotive's assembly lines and the Subaru plant in Japan, the pickup truck could be built in the U.S. plant.

It could be manufactured on the same platform as the all-new 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness trim level in Lafayette, Indiana. It would include the same suspension upgrades, all-terrain tires, more prominent wheel arch cladding, a metal front skid plate, unique hex-design LED fog lights, and an anti-glare hood decal in a matte-black finish. It would be everything you want in an off-road-ready compact and midsize pickup.

It's time for Subaru of America to launch an all-new 2024 Subaru Brat compact pickup and a Baja Wilderness midsize pickup for its U.S. customers and dive into the pickup market.

Would you buy a new compact 2024 Subaru Brat Wilderness if Subaru of America offered it? Or would a midsize four-door Subaru Baja Wilderness be your choice? You make the pick. Leave your comments below.

Subaru overpriced the Baja during its initial run and would suffer the same fate on a midsize platform. If they are after market share, the Crosstrek platform would be ideal to battle the Maverick, Santa Cruz and upcoming Rampage. Build it and they will come.

Agreed the Crosstrek platform would be ideal size.............we need a SMALL pick up...not mid size............and a king cab version as most truck folks are single drivers( No passengers)

Yes as I own a Subaru forester 2022 limited. I would buy a Subaru midsized pickup in a heartbeat. Just waiting for it to become available.

I own an 86 brat/ 05 leg GT / 15 fozzy
In my opinion what Subaru needs is a brat as 2 door and a Baja in 4 door manual option for brat at least
What people really want is a WRX with a pickup bed

My 2021 Forester sport lease is up in 2024, I would go for a mid size in an instant. The only thing the Forester is missing is a box for cargo. 😉

I currently have a 2011 Outback with 175 K miles and a 2014 Forrester with 145K miles. These are number six and seven of the Subaru's I've owned. YES I would like to see a all-new 2024 Subaru Brat compact pickup.
I've been kicking myself for 30 years for not buying a Brat when they were available. At 76 a new Brat would be my toy for the rest of my life!

I bought a 2015 Crosstrek to replace my 3rd Jeep Wrangler because my elderly mom really couldn't climb up into the Jeep very well anymore (she was a trooper all through her 80's, even riding when the doors were off, :)
I've grown to absolutely love the Subaru and would buy the Brat compact in a heartbeat. My granddaughter has just started driving, and I'd love to gift her the Crosstrek. Subaru has to be testing their markets-- keeping my fingers crossed they release something soon!

I found the Maverick hybrid 2 years ago but couldn’t move that fast to get on a list-/ so what about a hybrid truck?? Thought I saw something about a hybrid Subaru truck but you guys aren’t talking about one-/ why??? So it’s either the new Toyota stout hybrid or you guys!! I’m own a 2019 Impreza

I've owned a 79 Brat and then kept it until I bought my 2002 Baja. I've always said that I'd keep the 2002 Baja until Subaru came out with another truck. If Subaru makes another truck then I will be first inline to buy it. If not I'll just see if it will make it to 500,000 miles. I have 265,000 on it now. Subaru is missing out on a large market for this type of vehicle. After 20 years, the styling on the Baja still holds up. My wife owns a Subaru Ascent and this would make a great platform for a new truck.

How the hell do you order a Baja Wilderness midsize pickup? I have found No site that you can order one from or Dealer? Why not/ If they sale them then why can't you find one for sale or order one?

I have had a 2007 turbo Baja for 7 years and have loved it since the moment i laid eyes on it!! Its been my daily driver all these years as my other cars(Aston Martin, Mercedes GLE, BMW and others) have come and gone. When the Santa Cruz came out it broke my heart that it wasnt by Subaru!! It looks like the updated version of a Baja and i loved it! I kept waiting since the small trucks have become really popular again… But no Subaru! I gave in and bought the Santa Cruz and i do really like it a lot. My ole faithful 2007 is still in the garage and shares the work load with it. IF Subaru finally puts one out i MIGHT consider retiring it…

I currently own a 2021 (wife) 2021 Crosstrek and a new 2023 (my car) Crosstrek. I would be interested in a 2024 Subaru Brat 2 door manual transmission with whatever engine as long as it has two doors, a large bed for hauling camping gear, high ground clearance, and minimal electronic stuff. Our country needs a utility vehicle without all the bells and whistles to go camping. I’m ready to purchase one.

Sue Hults (not verified)    August 23, 2023 - 6:34PM

I have a 2017 Crosstrek, I would love to buy the Subaru Brat, hope it does come out next year I would upgrade to a truck.

Scott K (not verified)    September 3, 2023 - 11:47PM

In a heartbeat.

I would love to have a Baja or a Brat. Maybe both, I've owned 4 Subaru's 1 Legacy and 3 Forester's. Been wanting a smaller pickup, even considered the Maverick or Santa Cruz. I would prefer a Subaru though. So let's just get er done

Dan C. (not verified)    September 5, 2023 - 2:04PM

I am on my 3rd Subaru and I recommend them to anyone that will listen. I currently drive a 2006 Baja Turbo. It is honestly one of the most versatile vehicles I have ever had. If they could bring in a more modern version I would be all over it.

Richard Burton (not verified)    September 14, 2023 - 9:19PM

It would be nice if Subaru did make a pickup again and as we have owned a total of 11 Subaru’s so far, each with almost 300k before trading them in or giving away I can tell you the Ascent platform would be the best uni-body to work with since it has the taller roofline for headroom while entering and exiting, larger engine bay for later changes and larger size rear area for a bigger bed without any major design changes.
The major design and construction cost work is done so this platform would be the best “payoff” for both Subaru and its customers in the shortest amount of time.

Bonnie (not verified)    September 17, 2023 - 9:52PM

I have a 2014 legacy and am very happy with it. I have been searching for an in between of SUV and truck. Almost considering a Kei truck from an import location. I would defiantly put that aside if the Bratt came out. The turbo would help seal the deal.

Matthew Krausmann (not verified)    September 25, 2023 - 9:26PM

I have been hoping that SUBARU would finally get off their thumbs and build a Pickup Truck to challenge the other auto makers. They have the skill and they have the designs . . . now just pull the trigger and build one or the other, I do not care! I want a Subaru truck!!

I am waiting fir an AWD hybrid small pickup… I would purchase a Brat… I prefer a Subaru… presently have a 2019 Crosstreck and 2011 2 wheel drive Ford Ranger for hauling kayaks and bikes

Richard Boutin (not verified)    October 4, 2023 - 5:29PM

Would definetly buy a new Brat of the 2 door variety with "King Cab" storage space ............do not need nor want a 4 door pick up truck............and don't make it rediculously high off the ground with huge wheels/tires....try to keep price $30K or less for a decent trim model..........
