The EPA says the Sport and Touring XT trims with the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine return an estimated 23 mpg city/31 mpg highway and 26 combined mpg.

Why do the 2023 Legacy Sport and Touring XT trims get lower fuel mileage?

We asked a Subaru spokesman why the lower fuel mileage ratings, and this was the reply. "There are a few reasons, including power consumption due to enhanced features and emission regulation changes."

The emission regulation changes affected the Legacy's 2.4 liter turbocharged Boxer engine. The 2023 Subaru Legacy also comes with added weight due to the interior upgrades and new EyeSight driver-assist safety technology.

Do the changes affect the Legacy with the 2.5-liter engine?

There is no change in the fuel mileage to the 2023 Legacy 2.5-liter engine. The standard naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine gets an EPA estimated 27/35 mpg city/highway and 30 combined mpg.

What type of gasoline does the 2023 Subaru Legacy require?

With gas prices rising, do you need the more expensive grade of gasoline for the 2023 Legacy turbocharged engine? If you buy any new 2023 Subaru Legacy trim level, the sedan is designed to run the best on 87 octane or regular gasoline, and you don't need expensive premium or mid-grade fuel.

If you live in one of the mountain states, Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming, you can run the lowest 85 octane unleaded gasoline. Check out the report here for more details and how to save money on your fuel bill.

What is the price of the 2023 Subaru Legacy?

The 2023 Legacy sedan now comes in five trim levels. We have included the price increase on each trim after the new pricing.
