CR Says The New Subaru Forester May Be Worth The Wait, I Say It's The Best Choice

Consumer Reports says you may want to wait for the next-generation 2025 Subaru Forester. Here is why it's worth the wait.

Subaru is about to launch its most significant new model launch this year. An updated report from Consumer Reports (by subscription) lists the new cars on the horizon that might be worth the wait. I cover the list annually, and the 2025 Forester is most definitely the Subaru model worth the wait for compact SUV shoppers.

Consumer Reports says 22 new models are coming this year. CR says, "Consider keeping them on your "possible" list until we get them to our test track for a deeper evaluation."

What does Consumer Reports say about the all-new 2025 Forester?

"The redesigned 2025 Subaru Forester incorporates a host of new and improved safety technology onto a stiffened chassis that the automaker says gives a quieter ride than its predecessors."

"Although the aesthetic presence of the new model skews more brawny—thanks to a beefier grille, more squinty headlamps, pronounced and plastic-cladded fender arches, and distinct haunches—it's no surprise that cosmetic changes are relatively minor."

"The Forester has been a winner for Subaru, providing owners with standard all-wheel drive; big, high-visibility windows; and easy utility. Now the automaker has enhanced its standard active safety features with pedestrian and cyclist detection and a rear seat occupant alert system, and offers driver monitoring and emergency steering as optional equipment."

Subaru of America has yet to announce pricing, but it should be priced from $27,095 for the base trim to $37,395 for the top Touring trim.

The 2025 Forester will be available in the U.S. this spring.

MY TAKE

I have written extensively about the new sixth-generation Forester. Subaru gave the 2025 Subaru Forester significant upgrades over the previous generation model, and customers will be happy with the changes. The new Forester has improved standard safety features, more active safety features, a bigger infotainment touchscreen, and even more cargo room.

The improvements are all sure to keep the compact SUV the top-selling model for Subaru of America. The Forester gives shoppers what they want in a compact SUV "as they try to squeeze value out of increasingly expensive new cars," says CR.

Consumer Reports missed that the Forester will get a new Hybrid trim level, which should arrive a year from now. It gets new hybrid technology from Toyota. You can read more about the Forester Hybrid here.

Consumer Reports says the 2025 Subaru Forester is one of the new models that may be worth the wait. I say it's Subaru's most significant new launch this year. It's worth the wait for compact SUV shoppers.

Wondering why you are recommending the 25 Forester. It's general consensus that first year of redesign is to be avoided, so possible bugs can be worked out. The 26 would be the year to wait for. Why do you disagree?
