2014 Subaru LEVORG 2.0 GT-S sports tourer launches early in Japan

The all-new 2014 Subaru LEVORG 2.0 GT-S sports tourer launches in Japan. But it’s limited in supply.

Subaru has just launched the all-new 2014 LEVORG 2.0 GT-S Sports Tourer in Japan, but the performance wagon is limited. The sports tourer was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show 2013 with much excitement and it was supposed to launch this May. Subaru says the new 2014 Subaru LEVORG has already arrived in showrooms and is launching a bit early. But supplies are very limited.

Subaru will launch the new 2014 Subaru LEVORG in two models. The standard LEVORG sports tourer that made its global debut in Tokyo will be available along with the new sportier performance model LEVORG 2.0 GT-S.

The standard LEVORG is launching with a new smaller 1.6-liter Horizontally-Opposed direct injection turbo "DIT" Engine. This is a new powerplant for Subaru and the boxer engine will produce 125kW/250Nm. Subaru is bringing out this new engine first in the LEVORG and possibly in other models in the future as they look to increase fuel mileage in their lineup.

Subaru will also launch the new 2014 LEVORG 2.0 GT-S and will be powered by Subaru’s new 2.0-liter Boxer engine that made its debut in the 2014 Forester XT and now in the 2015 WRX. The 2.0 LEVORG engine will also be a Horizontally-Opposed direct injection turbocharged "DIT" engine. Subaru announced the LEVORG 2.0-liter engine would produce 221kW (296 hp) and torque that reaches 400N (295 lb ft).

LEVORG will feature a stiffer sport-tuned suspension with electric power steering and a smaller sport D-shaped steering wheel with a thick grip. The 1.6-liter sport models will have sport 215/50R17 tires, the 2.0-liter power-performance models get performance 225/45R18 wheels and tires.

Subaru may also launch a new LEVORG STI like the one they unveiled at Tokyo Auto Salon 2014. The LEVORG 2.0 GT-S gets the new 2.0-liter powerplant and the STI model will likely have more power as STI tunes it for more performance. But the LEVORG sports tourer will only be launching in two global markets, first in Japan and later this year in Europe.

Too bad we won’t see the new LEVORG 1.6 standard and 2.0 GT-S here in the U.S. And in STI trim, it would likely be in hot demand like the 2015 WRX and WRX STI. Stay tuned to Torque News for the latest 2014 Subaru LEVORG news.
