Torque News contributor Hande Tuncer had a work event this past weekend in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. It’s peak foliage for much of New Hampshire, so this was an ideal time for me to tag along and to test the 2026 Honda Passport TrailSport’s trail and sport credentials. We drove over six hours in some of the East’s most beautiful settings. Every step of the way, the Passport TrailSport proved to be an ideal touring vehicle.
Mt. Washington Offers the World’s Worst Weather
New Hampshire’s mountains are not the highest in America, but Mt. Washington’s location places it smack dab in a weird weather zone due to the jet stream. “We can get heavy snow and winds over 100 MPH any day of the year,” Terry of the Cog Railway told us. He was right. The auto road to the top was closed during our stay, so we took the cog railway up the mountain. It was a fantastic experience.
It was about 50F with drizzle at the Mount Washington Hotel when we departed for our tour, but with just a bit more elevation, we experienced a heavy wet snow. The Passport’s heated windshield made quick work of the slush.
Built-In Google
Following a winding tour through some scenic mountain passes, we used the built-in Google Maps nav system to find a random trail. The TrailSport’s all-terrain tires enable on or off-pavement touring. Many of the transitions to trailheads and from paved to dirt roads have steep ruts with exposed stones. The sidewall protection of the General Grabber A/T tires handled the hazards with no drama. Would a delicate, low-profile all-season tire give us this confidence? Certainly not.
Honda’s AWD System
With Honda’s i-VTM4 all-wheel-drive (AWD) system to keep us planted, muddy trails and washouts were not a problem.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time with the Passport. If you’d like to hear and see more details of this outstanding vehicle, check out the TikTok videos we produced along our way.
