New - 2019 Lexus ES Details

Lexus has now provided more details on its newest generation ES sedan.

Lexus has revealed more details and better images of its all-new 2019 ES sedan line. Longer, lower and wider than its previous generation, the new ES will have a new F Sport Trim. Indeed, the styling looks very much like a larger IS or GS sedan.

Base ES models will be called the ES 350 again. Power from the revised V6 engine is now 302 hp. The new 8-speed automatic transmission will have a gutsier 1st gear and a taller top gear for more fuel efficiency. Lexus notes that the transmission "...uses an ultra-thin torque converter and a multi-plate lockup clutch to more efficiently transfer power to the front wheels, and has been tuned to deliver crisp, precisely timed shifts with quick responses.

The ES 300h hybrid returns. We've previously tested the ES hybrid and achieved 40 MPG in real-world mixed driving. The all-new hybrid engine is tuned to feel even more like a conventional engine. Lexus says the new hybrid drive system "...incorporates fast-burn combustion technology that makes it one of the most thermally efficient engines ever offered in a Lexus. The result is more power without increasing emissions or fuel consumption." Total system power in the ES 300h now stands at 215 hp.

The new ES will have Alexa functionality as well as Apple Car Play integration. No word on Android Auto compatibility just yet. Like all Lexus models, the new ES has impressive active safety systems now including daytime bicycle detection to augment pedestrian detection.

When the ES goes on sale in September Lexus anticipates bringing more buyers to the new model. The F Sport trim may help with that, though on a front-wheel drive car, that remains to be seen.
