The 2023 Nissan Z Performance A/T is an exciting addition to the sports car market. The world of sports cars has seen a resurgence in recent times with the reimagined Toyota Supra and the flashy mid-engine Corvette making their debut last year. It's perfect timing for Nissan to refresh their aging Z coupe, which has become clearly outdated. Previous generations of Nissan's sports car have been identified by alphanumeric names, but this time, it's simply called the Z. Speaking of the coupe, Nissan Z fans enjoy the new Nissan Z coupe.
As I mentioned above the new Nissan Z is not that expensive. The new generation of the Z is not that expensive. Of course, the old Nissan 370Z had a starting price of $30,000 at one time, but this version was stripped of equipment. It had a steering wheel, four wheels and a motor, and that's about it. Better-end versions of the 370Z were more like around $40,000 with us. The 2023 Nissan Z retails between $40,990 to $53,990. The performance A/T package of the 2023 Nissan Z that I test-drove for Torque News review came with a $53,655 MSRP, which included the options and destination charges.
Engine and Performance
The engine of the 2023 Z is one of its most notable features. The 3.0-liter V6 twin turbo engine adds a significant bump in power output over the previous generation 370Z. The engine is rated at 400 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 350 lb-ft of torque starting from 1,600 to 5,200 rpm. With an increase of 68 horsepower and a 30 percent increase in torque, the engine is designed to deliver a sharp, yet smooth response to the driver's input. The estimated 15 percent improvement in 0 to 60 mph acceleration is also impressive, making the 2023 Z a true performer on the road. Customers can choose from a 6-speed manual transmission with motorsports-inspired EXEDY® high-performance clutch or a 9-speed automatic transmission with aluminum paddle shifters.

Design
From a design standpoint, the all-new 2023 Z offers a sleek and attractive exterior with a silhouette that shows respect for the original model. The long hood and low rear stance give the car an aggressive yet elegant look that is sure to turn heads. Inside, the driver-centric cockpit includes a 12.3-inch customizable racing-inspired TFT meter display, available leather-appointed sports seats, and an 8-speaker Bose® Audio system. The interior is designed to provide the driver with an immersive and engaging experience while driving.
I have to admit, at first I didn't particularly like the Z's exterior design. My opinion was based on the 240Z-inspired rectangular front grille cutout. However, immediately after receiving the keys to the press car, I changed my mind. In fact, it's simple, the 2023 Nissan Z is beautiful. Other items added to the Z under the Performance package are the stunning 19-inch RAYS super light forged alloy wheels, front spoiler and rear spoiler.
Trims
The 2023 Nissan Z is offered in Sport and Performance grade levels and a special Proto Spec edition, which is limited to 240 units. The Proto Spec edition features unique styling cues, exclusive wheels, and a sport-tuned suspension that is sure to enhance the driving experience even further. With the Proto Spec edition, Nissan has created a car that is not only a performance machine but also a work of art.
Interior
There are a few new touches inside, like a standard 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 9-inch touchscreen, but there's a clear, visual connection between the 370Z and the new Z. Speaking of the touchscreen's size, the standard is 8.0-inch infotainment display, while a 9.0-inch unit with navigation is optional. There is also the SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
The 2023 Nissan Z comes with a standard six-speaker stereo system that will get the job done, but for those who take their music seriously, there is an optional premium audio system available that is engineered by Bose. This upgraded sound system will bring your music to life, making every drive an unforgettable experience. Additionally, you can opt for an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing you to stay connected and enjoy your favorite tunes no matter where you go.
Much of the equipment is taken over, including the air conditioning controls. These are positioned below the screen and are not illuminated, and the information isn't not displayed on the touch screen. Otherwise, the triple gauge atop the center console is present and the seats, electrically operated, heated and covered in leather in the Performance, offer support and comfort.
The 2023 Nissan Z's interior is designed for two people, just like a classic sports car. Nissan made sure to update the materials and give the Z a fresh look while keeping the layout the same. You can choose leather seats and the climate control system can be adjusted for both the driver and the passenger. We're not sure how much you can fit in the trunk, but it's big enough for a few suitcases or your sports equipment. Even though the Z is not meant for grocery shopping, it's perfect for going on a weekend trip or a spontaneous drive with a friend.
Safety and Driver Assist Features of the 2023 Nissan Z
The 2023 Nissan Z is not only a performance machine, but it also comes equipped with advanced safety features that aim to protect both the driver and passengers. Nissan has made several driver-assistance features standard in the Z, such as automated emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and blind-spot monitoring. The Drive
Given that the 2023 Nissan Z sits on an updated nearly 15-year-old platform, little refinement can be expected over the 370Z, and none are bundled. It's one of the best things about the new Z, because it drives like an older car. Unlike the Golf R, Type R and MX-5, the Z is raw and unfiltered, just like the wonderful Toyota GR Corolla. Handling is good overall. The brakes are responsive and powerful.
The Z truly shines when you can take advantage of its powerful engine and take your time with it. This aspect makes it feel more like a luxurious grand-touring coupe than a pure sports car. While the Z may not excel in pure performance, it certainly is one of the most comfortable sport coupes available. Additionally, the Z's ride quality on a day-to-day basis is highly commendable. Though the low-profile tires do allow for some smaller bumps to be felt inside the cabin, larger bumps are absorbed with ease, making the Z a great choice for long-distance road trips.
The all-new, seventh-generation 2023 Z went on sale at Nissan dealers nationwide in summer 2022. According to Hiroshi Tamura, chief product specialist of the new Z, "Our goal is to make this the best Z yet, period. With each generation, we raise the bar, pushing the limits of Z and continuing to tap into the human instinct for that next thrilling journey. More than just powerful and agile, the 2023 Z is designed to be one with the driver for all kinds of on-road adventures." With its impressive performance, sleek design, and driver-centric cockpit, the 2023 Nissan Z is sure to be a hit with driving enthusiasts everywhere.
