Jeep is Recalling 200,000 2021-2024 Wrangle 4xe and 2022-2024 Grand Cherokee 4xe Vehicles for Windshield Defroster Problems

The recall affects nearly 140,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles and nearly 60,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xes. The defrosters may fail to work which can make it difficult for drivers to see.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is alerting drivers of the 140,000 2021-2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe models and owners of 60,000 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe vehicles of potential problems with their windshield defrosters. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is the top-selling plug-in hybrid in North America and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is the second most popular plug-in hybrid.

What is Causing the Recall

Stellantis is voluntarily recalling the vehicles to fix the software on the vehicles’ hybrid control processors. A problem with the programming may prevent the defrosters from turning on. According to the NHTSA Safety Report “A disabled windshield defrost system may decrease outward visibility in certain driving conditions which may cause a crash without prior warning.”

How Stellantis Will Fix the Windshield Defroster Problem

Stellantis will start notifying owners of the affected vehicles on April 05, 2024. Dealers will update the vehicles’ hybrid control processor software free of charge to correct the problem. The NHTSA reference number for this recall is 24V-111. The Stellantis recall number for this recall is 04B. Owners with questions can call Stellantis at 800-853-1403. Owners who have already had their defrosters in for repair will be reimbursed by the company.
