I know I’m biased but I think the Ford Explorer is a great vehicle. I’ve owned several over my lifetime. The Explorer holds everything you need it to and will take you anywhere you want to go. Now, for the first time, the 2026 Ford Explorer Tremor is designed with a more aggressive under carriage to take you off-roading on more rugged trails. I told you about Ford's plans to add the Explorer Tremor, last year. The 2026 Explorer Tremor has a an available 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine that delivers up to 400 horsepower and 415 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is the same one you'll find in the Explorer ST and is available for the Explorer Platinum. It provides plenty of power for conquering challenging terrain. A 2.3L option is also available for buyers who want a balance of performance and efficiency.

2026 Ford Explorer Tremor Designed for Off-Roading

The Explorer design team set out to create a version of the family vehicle that was engineered for off-roading on challenging terrain. They also wanted the vehicle to be able to tow ATVs, bikes, trailers and campers on muddy trails or rocky mountain passes. The Explorer Tremor appears to be a vehicle that combines rugged capability with modern comfort and technology. The Tremor has an upgraded suspension and drivetrain designed for off-road performance.

2026 Explorer Tremor Upgrades

Functional Design: The new Tremor package has improved approach and departure angles to be able to conquer obstacles while out on the trail. That is due, in part, to 18-inch wheels and 31 ½”  all-terrain tires. The Tremor also adds auxiliary off-road lights and tow hooks.

Powerful Engine Options: As I mentioned previously, The Tremor has access to Ford’s most powerful Explorer engine. The available 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine delivers up to 400 horsepower and 415 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine provides plenty of power for towing or conquering challenging terrain. A 2.3L 4-cylinder option is also available.

Intelligent Drivetrain: The Tremor has standard 4-wheel drive (AWD) with a Torsen limited-slip differential that provides traction on slippery/sandy surfaces. Drivers can confidently travel off-road on more difficult trails knowing that they have the power and traction to handle most situations.

Off-Road-Tuned Suspension: The Explorer Tremor has a unique suspension system that includes specially tuned springs and sway bars. This gives it an extra inch of lift or ride height and a smooth, controlled ride whether you are travelling on the highway or heading into the back country.

Underbody Protection: There are three steel skid plates for added underbody protection at the front and rear of the vehicle to protect vital components and allow customers to venture off the beaten path with even more confidence.

Advanced Technology: The Explorer Tremor has Ford’s latest technology, including the Ford Digital Experience and Copilot 360 Assist 2.0. The Tremor also has available upgrades like massaging front seats and an optional 14-speaker premium B&O audio system. Ford is also giving Tremor buyers the option of adding BlueCruise 1.5. The hands-free driving system is designed to make long road trips much easier and more enjoyable.

2026 Explorer Tremor Expands the Lineup

The 2026 Explorer Tremor is just one of the packages available in the Explorer line-up. Its beefier stance, agile suspension and more powerful engine puts it in an off-roading class of its own. Other Explorers in the 2026 lineup include the versatile Active, sporty ST-Line, high performance ST, and luxury Platinum models. The Tremor’s extra underbody skid plates should make drivers more confident about venturing off-road. Ford didn’t just dress the Tremor up with flashy tow hooks and wheel trim, it beefed up the suspension and built an SUV to actively compete in off-roading which is the fastest growing segment of outside entertainment. The Explorer Tremor joins the Expedition Tremor in building Ford’s Off-roading chops.

Ford says it will release pricing and fuel efficiency closer to the actual release date.
