Tesla To Unveil Robotaxi on 8/8 - According To Elon Musk Directly Posting On X

Elon Musk posts directly on X that there will be a Tesla Robotaxi unveil on 8/8. This is in only 4 months and comes after a controversial article from Reuters about Tesla's compact car being cancelled.

Elon Musk Shares Robotaxi Unveil Date

Tesla is going to unveil their robotaxi on 8/8/2024 this year and there is a lot of buzz and enthusiasm around this announcement, amid the controversy that Tesla is scrapping it's $25,000 compact car (which Elon has vehemently denied).

This is an important milestone for Tesla and I also believe that Tesla will license its FSD technology to other automakers who choose to use it, such as GM, Ford, Lucid, and Rivian.

This announcement comes at a time when Tesla's FSD software, which is touted to one day, allow vehicles to drive autonomously without a driver, is starting to gain traction and attention do to the significant progress being made. It hasn't made the cars autonomous yet, but it is definitely improving at a much faster rate.

There are many videos now surfacing of FSD 12.3.3 doing intervention free drives. It's not perfect, though - I had an intervention today while driving, but the progress is undeniable.

The Robotaxi Vehicle

The robotaxi vehicle will be built on the generation 3 platform for Tesla, using an "unboxing" approach, which will build the car simultaneously from multiple work stations and then assembling it at a final station with all the pieces that were done in parallel.

It is expected to be 1/2 the cost of a Model 3/Y, and to have no pedals, no steering wheel, and most likely only two to four seats with a screen to allow commands of where to go.

I also believe there will be a version with a steering wheel and pedals, that won't be much different, that people can buy and use for their own transportation if they so desire. That is what the compact car will end up being - a robotaxi vehicle with a steering wheel and pedals, in my opinion.

This unveil comes at a time of slower growth for Tesla, as vehicle volumes this year may end up being flat with no new models being introduced and interest rates being high, causing demand to slow.

If Tesla could also do a new Roadster unveil at this same meeting, that would be great - many are looking forward to that vehicle and what it will be capable of doing.

One thing Tesla needs to do, though, is enable Autopilot and FSD on the Cybertruck. That still doesn't have those features...

Still, this is very exciting, and I'm looking forward to hearing more about this new robotaxi vehicle from Tesla!
