The 2023 Subaru Outback arrived last month with new upgrades, giving the midsize SUV a big shot upward. But there is one hot Subaru model that you love more. Here is what new SUV shoppers should know before they head to Subaru retailers.
Subaru of America reports sales of the 2023 Subaru Outback are up 40.3 percent in October. The Camden, N.J. automaker said they delivered 11,992 Outback models to customers in October compared with 8,548 in October 2021. But the Outback is down 10.7 percent year to date. With two more strong months, Outback could be up for the year.
Customers like the new Outback midsize SUV, but new SUV shoppers love the hot Crosstrek subcompact SUV more. The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek arrives now and stays smokin' hot this Fall, with 13,635 subcompact SUVs delivered to customers in October. That's a 28.7 percent increase over October 2021 sales (10,591).
Crosstrek is still the best-selling all-wheel-drive model for SOA, with 128,979 models delivered to customers over ten months compared with 111,658 sold in 2021. Crosstrek is now 11,583 model sales ahead of the Outback midsize SUV this year.
Customers were waiting for the 2023 Outback model change
Outback sales jumped as customers ordered the 2023 models with its new upgrades. The 2023 Outback midsize SUV has a redesigned front fascia, the latest EyeSight safety technology, and a new wide-angle mono camera. Subaru also updated the 2023 Outback's multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The 2023 Outback Onyx Edition is now selling with the 2.5-liter naturally aspirated Boxer engine. Before, the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine was the only engine customers could get.
What is the price of the 2023 Outback?
The 2023 Outback now comes in nine trim levels for U.S. customers; the base trim is priced from $29,620, Premium ($31,920), new Onyx Edition with a 2.5-liter engine ($34,720), Limited ($36,520), Touring ($41,070), Outback Wilderness ($39,670), Onyx Edition XT ($39,820), Limited XT ($40,920), and Touring XT ($43,520). Pricing includes $1,225 destination and delivery fees.
What is the best Outback trim level?
The 2023 Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium and Limited trim levels are where many buyers will land and offer the best value with the smallest price increases. Unless you need the Outback XT's extra power and off-pavement capability, you will pay about $5,000-$8000 less for a comparably equipped 2.5i trim level.
The 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine in the Subaru Outback Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited, and Touring trims is a good choice for commuters who won't use their vehicle for off-road adventures.
Is the Outback fuel efficient?
The EPA fuel mileage rating of the 2023 Outback XT 2.4-liter turbo is 22/29 city/highway mpg and 25 combined mpg. The estimated fuel economy of the standard 2.5-liter engine is 26/32 mpg city/highway and 28 combined mpg. The Outback Wilderness gets an estimated 21/26 city/highway mpg and 23 combined mpg.

I did not care for the wheel

I did not care for the wheel lip cladding and front bumper cladding on the 2023 Outback models. Trying to make the Outback look more rugged like the Wilderness model I guess. Bought one of the few remaining 2022 Outback Limited models available instead.
