Subaru's Not Done With Insanely Fast Cars - They Blew Past The Goodwood Competition

Who says Subaru is done building fast cars? The Hoonigan Gymkhana Subaru GL Wagon blew past all but one car and took first in class and second place overall at the Goodwood speed shootout. Check the details here.

Do you remember when Subaru built crazy fast cars just for fun? Subaru of America is back, and they are not done building insanely fast cars. The Hoonigan Gymkhana Subaru GL Wagon was at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, and they brought the fastest car they own, a 1983 GL wagon. It's not the original wagon; this one-off build is crazy fast.

The Subaru Family Huckster is not your Subaru Outback family hauler. It produces 862 horsepower. Subaru Motorsports and Vermont SportsCar designed the Hoonigan Gymkhana Subaru GL Wagon to have fun.

The Hoonigan Gymkhana Subaru GL Wagon was involved in an incredibly close contest for the overall victory in the Timed Shootout at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The overall winner was the McLaren Solus GT following an astonishing run up the Hill in a naturally-aspirated V10, sending 840PS (618kW) to the rear wheels via a seven-speed sequential transmission, revving to over 10,000 rpm.

This year's winner was battling Travis Pastrana in the spectacular Subaru GL Family Huckster. Marvin Kirchhofer took the top in a McLaren Solus GT, traveling 149.1 mph in 45.34 seconds up Goodwood Hill.

Travis Pastrana and Subaru of America were first in class and second overall in the hot Subaru GL Family Huckster, traveling 130.0 mph with a time of 46.37 seconds. In the McLaren M26 F1 car from 1976, Michael Lyons rounded off the podium, traveling 132.3 mph with a time of 46.89 seconds.

Travis Pastrana said, "I thought we couldn't be more sideways than last year! I think I had more fun than anyone possibly could have. We couldn't leave anything on the table; we're here for Ken Block, in tribute to Ken. It's just an honor to be driving that car up this Hill. You couldn't ask for more."

The wagon is built for speed.

The wagon features an all-wheel-drive sequential transmission, rear-mounted radiators, and an EJ-based 2.3-liter billet 4-cylinder Boxer engine based on the Subaru Motorsports RallyCross engine that can produce 8,000 plus Revs.

The family huckster is mostly carbon fiber, including a roof rack, 80s rear window louvers, and a cassette player for your mix tapes. Pastrana uses the GL wagon to fly, jump, and slide skim across the water, which has a 165 mph top speed for racing jets. "It is like no Subaru Wagon ever before," says Subaru.
