3 Hot New Subaru Models You Want, And One That’s Out In The Cold

What three models would launch Subaru of America to new heights? Check out the top model you want and the one you don't want.

Three new Subaru Subaru EVs are coming by 2026, but there are other models you want to see in Subaru of America's all-wheel-drive lineup first. Even though electric vehicles are a hot topic, there are three different new Subaru model launches customers would buy now before they would consider purchasing an EV.

Here are the top picks for Subaru customers in 2024.

A midsize Subaru Baja Pickup is the number one model customers want now.

The Baja Wilderness pickup is the first vehicle Subaru of America needs to fill out its all-wheel-drive line. Subaru of New England has the right idea. They recently put the image of the Baja Wilderness on its Instagram page, saying, "You asked, we delivered." Of course, it was just an April fool's joke earlier this year, but the truth is often spoken in jest.

Subaru of New England said, "Introducing the all-new 2024 Baja Wilderness. Equipped with a 260 horsepower turbocharged Subaru Boxer engine, 9.2" of ground clearance, standard all-wheel drive, and up to 75 cubic feet of cargo space, the Subaru Baja Wilderness has everything you need for off-road adventures. So where will the 2024 Baja Wilderness take you?"

A new Forester trim level with a turbocharged engine is number two.

2024 Subaru Forester turbo

The Subaru Forester lives in the competitive compact SUV category and performs well but needs improvement. The Forester needs something to get customers excited about. One new trim level would raise the Forester's game.

A turbocharged engine would make a difference in the Forester Sport and Wilderness trim levels. The Outback Wilderness has a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine and is a top-selling model for outdoor enthusiasts. The Forester Wilderness is languishing in sales and badly needs an upgrade.

2024 Subaru Ascent Wilderness trimThe Ascent outdoor-themed Wilderness trim level is number three.

At a Subaru dealer meeting earlier this year, former President and CEO Tom Doll hinted that Subaru of America might launch more Wilderness trim levels soon. Doll said Subaru's present lineup is particularly tailored for U.S. consumer tastes, citing the 3-row Subaru Ascent and top-of-the-line Wilderness trim and equipment packages for the Subaru Outback and Subaru Forester.

The Wilderness family now includes the rugged Outback, Forester, and new Crosstrek Wilderness trim levels for active customers. The Ascent would be the next Wilderness launch for Subaru of America.

2024 Subaru Chiffon minivanThe one Subaru model you don't want is a new all-wheel-drive minivan.

Minivans are still popular for U.S. families, but Subaru customers would buy the 3-Row Ascent first. Subaru sells a minivan you likely have not heard about because it's only sold in Japan. It's called the Subaru Chiffon. Subaru calls it a minicar because it's small and compact. This model would not be a popular pick for U.S. customers.

North Americans are happy with Subaru's Ascent and Outback midsize SUVs, Forester compact SUV, and Crosstrek subcompact SUV. Customers in the U.S. are not clamoring for a Subaru all-wheel-drive minivan.

Three Subaru models that should be on Subaru of America's shortlist of new model launches are a Baja Wilderness pickup, a turbocharged Forester Sport and Wilderness, and an Ascent Wilderness. A minivan is one Subaru should avoid making.

Please add the 2.4 Turbo to the Forester and bring back the Forester XT line to mirror the Outback’s -adding ventilated seats, digital rearview mirror, rain sensing wipers, etc to meet or beat the competition.
A Forester Hybrid option would be fantastic as well to hit that 40mpg combined rating (or higher) of your corporate competitors like - the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Limited.
