Subaru Teases Another All-New Wilderness SUV And We Know What It Is

Subaru just announced they would bring another new 2022 Wilderness SUV to the lineup. We know what it is.

Subaru of America loves to keep secrets and tease their customers. They just did it again today to announce that they will bring another new Wilderness sub-brand SUV to the lineup this year. But we know what it is; it's a new rugged 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness.

Torque News reported in June, a new Forester Wilderness was confirmed by Subaru of New England on its website. They gave no details, but like the 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness, the 2022 Forester will gain the more rugged model for active customers who want to get further away.

We know it will likely feature an advanced dual function X-Mode, elevated 9.5-inch ground clearance, standard front and rear skid plates, and an upgraded suspension. Like the Outback sub-brand, we expect the more rugged Forester to be a big hit with active customers.

The all-new 2022 Forester Wilderness will wear 17-inch Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires and come with a full-size spare tire. The new Forester will also feature a modified Lineartronic CVT automatic (Continuously Variable Transmission) and an upgraded rear differential with a final drive ratio of 4.44:1.

Forester Wilderness will also get additional body cladding under skid plates and wilderness badging outside and inside the cabin.

What engine will power the Forester Wilderness?

What we don't know is what engine will power the all-new adventure-ready 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness trim. The Forester Wilderness will be heavier than the standard model and needs an engine with more power to carry extra outdoor gear and cargo.

A logical choice that fans want is the proven FA24 2.4-liter turbocharged engine producing 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. The additional power would make the new Forester Wilderness a more capable off-road-ready vehicle for outdoor enthusiasts.

Will Forester Wilderness get increased towing capacity?

The current model tows 1,500 pounds, while the Outback can tow up to 3,500 lbs. The 2.4-liter engine would also increase Forester's tow rating for those wanting to tow a boat or small camper.

Subaru gave no reveal dates, but the all-new 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness Edition is expected to make its U.S. reveal this fall. Two questions are; will the adventure-ready Forester Wilderness have a turbocharged engine, and will Subaru increase the towing capacity? Stay tuned.
