Subaru Announces The All-New Next-Generation 2022 WRX But No Reveal Date

Subaru says the next-generation 2022 Subaru WRX is coming this year. When will the new sport-tuned performance sedan arrive?

Subaru of America just teased the all-new next-generation 2022 Subaru WRX in the image shown here. Subaru is being secretive and says the new WRX will make its global debut by a live unveiling but does not say when.

In the announcement today, Subaru says, "The legend of the WRX gets an all-new, even more, thrilling chapter. The Subaru WRX world premiere is coming, and you'll be able to watch the live unveiling. Sign up to be one of the first to see the powerful, agile, completely redesigned 2022 WRX."

2022 Subaru WRX reveal

Here's what we know. Sources from Japan say the 2022 WRX reveal will be in October. According to the new report, the 2022 WRX will get an FA24 2.4-liter direct-injection turbocharged Boxer engine producing 286 horsepower (18 more horsepower than the current-generation model).

There is also information that test rides by Subaru Corporation are already underway, so preparations are ready for an October reveal.

The overall length is expected to be 183 inches, which is 2.2 inches longer than the previous WRX. Overall width is expected to be about 71 inches, which is .40 inches wider, and total height is about 57 inches.

The 2022 Subaru WRX will stay with a wide ratio spread 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional Sport Lineartronic CVT automatic. The 2022 WRX STI will only be available with a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission.

Look for the all-new 2022 Subaru WRX to get a significant price bump, but we expect the new model to come in less than $30,000. The current base price of the STI is $28,420 including destination. The next-generation model will likely have a starting MSRP just south of $30,000, including destination and delivery.

Subaru went on to say, "The newest 2022 Subaru WRX will be here so fast, it will take your breath away." Stay tuned.

Denis - just a heads up, you have a misprint in the article where you wrote, "The current base price of the STI is $28,420 including destination."

Though, I wish that were true.
