The all-new 2022 Outback Wilderness is available now at many U.S. retailers. Initial reports say new Wilderness models are selling fast. If you are looking for the more rugged model, you will likely have to wait.

Most U.S. retailers are getting the all-new rugged 2022 Outback Wilderness sub-brand model now. A source at a Denver Subaru retailer says they have 10 Wilderness trims ordered, and they are already pre-sold to customers. We found one Wilderness on the lot, and it's already been sold.

Subaru made an excellent move to bring the Wilderness sub-brand, including the 2022 Forester and 2024 Crosstrek models. The all-new 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness is ready for serious fun in the dirt. The Outback Wilderness is more than an appearance package and comes with off-road upgrades not found on the standard model.

The adventure-ready upgrades include an advanced dual function X-Mode, elevated 9.5-inch ground clearance, a standard front skid plate, and an upgraded suspension.

The Outback Wilderness will handle more challenging trails with 9.5-inch ground clearance, a nearly one-inch increase over the standard model's 8.7-inches. Subaru says the suspension is tuned for improved stability, and the front and rear shock absorbers and springs were increased in length to provide additional ground clearance and suspension travel.

Subaru retailers will have additional accessory parts, including aluminum or steel skid plates for the engine, transmission, and fuel tank. A rear differential protector is also available.

What is the price of the 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness?

The 2022 Outback Wilderness starts at $38,120. Pricing includes $1,125 destination and delivery fees.

What is the fuel mileage of the Outback Wilderness?

The EPA says the new Outback Wilderness gets an estimated 22/26 city/highway mpg and 24 combined mpg. The 2021 Outback XT with the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine gets an EPA estimated 23/30 city/highway mpg and 26 combined mpg. That's a four-mile per gallon difference on the highway and two less combined mpg.

If you are looking for a 2021 or 2022 Subaru Outback, you are in luck. Subaru of America seems to have a good supply of the Outback midsize SUV, but the new 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness may be hard to find. Subaru of America hit a home run as it's a big hit with outdoor enthusiasts.
