Subaru Legacy gets a more refined ride for 2016

Subaru announces pricing on the 2016 Legacy sedan and it comes with new refinements. What’s new for the 2016 model?

The base 2016 Legacy 2.5i, featuring a 175-horsepower 2.5-liter Boxer engine and standard Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with manual mode and paddle shifters, starts at an MSRP of $21,745. That’s a $50 price bump. The 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited and 3.6R Limited all get a $350 price increase over last years model.

What’s new for 2016?

For the modest price increase, all 2016 Legacy sedans get new auto on/off mode that operates the windshield wipers with the headlights. Subaru engineers also retuned the electric power-assist steering on the new Legacy to provide “an even more linear and natural feel.”

The 2016 Subaru Legacy gets a more refined ride over the outgoing model. The new generation 2015 Legacy Limited trims gained exclusive Stablex suspension dampers. For 2016, Subaru further refined the new Legacy’s suspension to significantly reduce vibration over rough roads, especially those with washboard-texture concrete surfaces.

New safety features

For 2016, the new generation EyeSight safety system adds a Lane Keep Assist function. New Legacy’s equipped with EyeSight crash prevention system now receive Lane Keep Assist, which the driver can activate with a steering wheel mounted switch.

The new enhancement to EyeSight activates above 40 mph if the EyeSight camera detects the vehicle drifting from the lane and a steering assistance control engages to direct the vehicle back into the lane. If the vehicle continues across the lane, Lane Departure Warning is triggered and audible and visual alerts are engaged. 2016 Legacy Limited trims also feature standard Blind Spot Detection + Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which are included with the EyeSight option on Premium trims.

New STARLINK safety and security

For 2016, Legacy Premium and Limited trims now feature two new Subaru STARLINK Safety and Security packages. STARLINK Safety Plus package includes SOS Emergency Assistance, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, Maintenance Notifications, Monthly Vehicle Health Report and Diagnostic Alerts. The STARLINK Safety Plus & Security Plus Package adds Stolen Vehicle Recovery Service, Vehicle Security Alarm Notification, Remote Lock/Unlock, Remote Horn and Lights and Remote Vehicle Locator.

STARLINK infotainment

All 2016 Legacy sedan trim lines now feature STARLINK, Subaru’s in-vehicle platform that gives drivers entertainment services and hands-free connectivity. Owners can use their smartphones and tap into nearly unlimited entertainment with apps like Pandora, iHeartRadio Aha, and Stitcher. The technology can deliver live traffic alerts and helps reduce driver distraction by displaying texts and allowing the driver to use voice commands for music and navigation (when equipped).

The 2016 Subaru Legacy sedan gets new refinements in ride quality, safety and infotainment and begins arriving at dealerships this summer.
