Subaru Is Up Again? 2 New SUVs Keep The Good Times Rolling, And One Is Back

Subaru of America reported sales are up again. Check out Subaru's top three SUVs that keep the good times rolling and one performance model that keeps dropping.

Subaru of America (SOA) is reporting sales are up again, and the good times keep rolling. It's the fourth time this year that sales are up, and the Camden, N.J. automaker's top SUVs keep the momentum going. The improved sales are because of the hot 2023 Subaru Crosstrek, redesigned 2023 Outback, and the steady Forester is now rolling again.

SOA reports 48,568 vehicle sales, a 32 percent increase in October, compared with October 2021 (36,817). The impressive sales increase is now the third consecutive month with positive sales for SOA.

"Subaru retailers went above and beyond to deliver strong results this October, surpassing our sales from the same time last year by a wide margin," said Tom Doll, President, and CEO, Subaru of America.

With the increase in October sales, Subaru of America reports they are still down for the year. Through the first ten months, sales have decreased by 10 percent compared to 2021. Subaru says they still face ongoing microchip and supply chain issues affecting automakers across the globe.

Jeff Walters, Senior Vice President of Sales, said, "Despite ongoing supply chain challenges industry-wide, October was a strong month for Subaru, and we exceeded our October 2021 sales results."

2023 Subaru Crosstrek

Subaru Crosstrek is the top model again

The hot 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Crosstrek was the top performer by volume, with 13,635 subcompact SUVs delivered to customers, a 28.74 percent increase compared with the same period in 2021 (10,591).

Crosstrek remains the best-selling all-wheel-drive model for SOA, with 128,979 models delivered to customers over ten months. Crosstrek is one of two Subaru SUVs with a sales increase in 2022, up 15.5 percent.

Jeff Walters, Senior Vice President of Sales, said, "We expect to see continued strength in demand as we head toward the holiday season and car buyers look for family-friendly and adventure-ready vehicles."

Our Take

The hot Crosstrek offers the best value for small SUV shoppers because of its affordability and fuel efficiency. The Crosstrek now offers two engine options, and customers can get further off the grid with the Crosstrek Sport and Limited trims with dual-function X-Mode.

2023 Subaru Outback

Subaru Outback remains in second place in the lineup

The Subaru Outback stays second in the lineup in sales through the first ten months of 2022, with an impressive increase of 40.3 percent in October. SOA delivered 11,992 Outback models to customers in October, compared with the same period in 2021 (8,548). Outback has 117,396 models sold to customers in 2022, a decrease of 10.7 percent compared with 2021.

The newly-remodeled 2023 Outback models arrive now but had a stop-sale because of an issue with its SOS Starlink button. Read the updated story here.

2023 Subaru Forester

Forester is back with a massive sales increase

The refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester stays third in SOA's lineup but had a massive increase of 148.0 percent in October. SOA delivered 11,954 compact SUVs to customers compared with only 4,820 in October 2021. A total of 91,359 Forester SUVs have been sold through the first ten months of 2022, a drop of 33.4 percent compared with 2021.

Ascent falls back

The 2022 Subaru Ascent sales dropped slightly in October, decreasing by 3.7 percent, with 5,029 3-Row SUVs delivered to customers compared with 5,221 in October 2021. Still, the Ascent is up 5.7 percent year to date, with 51,051 3-Row SUVs sold to families in the first ten months of 2022.

Impreza and Legacy are unimpressive

The Subaru Impreza compact sedan and hatchback sales (2,861) were down 18.5 percent compared to October 2021 (3,512). The 2022 Legacy sedan had 1,155 sales and dropped 12.2 percent compared with 1,315 sales in October 2021.

Subaru's performance cars

Subaru's performance lineup of the 2022 WRX and 2022 BRZ are up and down again in October. The next-generation WRX was down, the most of any nameplate, dropping 40.3 percent, with 1,664 performance sedans delivered to customers compared with 2,786 sedans sold in October 2021. Due to the model change, the all-new 2022 BRZ was up with 278 sport coupes sold compared to 24 models in October 2021.

Subaru of America keeps the good times rolling with the third consecutive month of sales increase. The hot 2023 Subaru Crosstrek, redesigned 2023 Outback, and steady 2023 Forester keep the good times rolling.
