The newly-refreshed 2023 Subaru Ascent is still the fourth best-selling SUV in the lineup, but sales shot up last month. The Ascent gets many new upgrades, but there is another reason why more families pick the Ascent. Keep reading to find out what happened to the family hauler.
Subaru of America (SOA) reported 5,794 Ascent 3-Row SUVs were delivered to customers in March. The Ascent picked up the pace and was up 43.2 percent compared with the 4,047 models sold in March 2022. The Ascent is up 0.6 percent in the first three months of 2023. Ascent is now one of the two SUVs, along with Crosstrek, that are up in sales for the first quarter of 2023.

With the 2023 Ascent model change and new improvements, it's not a surprise the Ascent family hauler is performing better in the new year. The Ascent was on an upward trend last year and continues into 2023. SOA reported that 14,782 Ascent models were delivered to customers in the first three months of 2023 compared with 14,698 in the same period in 2022.
How does the Ascent compare in sales volume with the other Subaru SUVs? The 2023 Forester compact SUV is down 3.0 percent, the Outback midsize SUV is down 0.6 percent, and the hot Crosstrek is up 10.9 percent this year. Check out the 2023 Subaru Ascent upgrades and model changes here.

Why should customers look at the Subaru Ascent?
What sets the Ascent family hauler apart from other midsize 3-Row SUVs is its standard all-wheel-drive system that provides all-weather capability, X-Mode for severe weather, and dual-function X-Mode on some trim levels for all-terrain ability. In addition, as with all Subaru SUVs, they are designed for active families needing extra off-pavement capability.
The Subaru Ascent 3-Row family hauler should have received a redesign in 2024 models. But due to supply chain issues and parts shortages, Subaru refreshed the Ascent this year, and it will get a few changes in 2024. As a result, Subaru will likely delay the redesign of the Ascent until 2025 models. There is no benefit to waiting for the 2024 model as it will receive minimal changes and a price increase.
What is the 2023 Ascent pricing?
The 2023 Subaru Ascent base starts at $35,120, and Premium trims begin at $39,180. The Ascent Onyx Edition starts at $42,520, the upper Limited starts at $42,820, the new Ascent Onyx Edition Limited is priced at $47,520, and the top-trim Touring has a starting MSRP of $49,420. Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,225).
Ascent gets a new dependability rating from Consumer Reports.
A significant reason sales on the Ascent jumped in March is the Ascent's dependability ranking with Consumer Reports. The Ascent is now on CR's recommended vehicles list as dependability has improved from the 2019-2021 models. You can read the dependability report in the link here.
Ascent sales are up in the first three months of 2023, and active families should put the 3-Row SUV on their shopping list this year. A significant reason why is reliability has improved significantly on the new models.
