New Prodrive Subaru WRX STI Revealed [Full Gallery]

The new 2016 Prodrive/Subaru WRX STI has been revealed. Can it beat the IOM record?

Subaru and Prodrive are back together and it will be another exciting adventure. This time it’s not a rally car, but it will be a 2016 Subaru WRX STI built to take on the Isle of Man course again. Mark Higgins will be behind the wheel and it will be quite a ride as Subaru Tecnica International and Prodrive hook up to set a new record.

What do we know about the new 2016 Subaru WRX STI IOM build? Not much. Prodrive isn’t talking and Subaru hasn’t released any information on the new STI. We do have a number of pictures from Prodrive they gave us permission to use. The all-white WRX STI has been lowered, it has new aerodynamic body panels, a new hood with cooling vents and a large wing for improved stability.

The new Prodrive/STI also has a full roll cage and a custom performance racing seat with a full harness. Like Mark Higgins’ 2015 WRX STI, this car will also likely get a fire suppression system and modified springs and dampers to handle the sustained high speeds and changing conditions of the TT course. Higgins 2015 STI was shod with Dunlop Derezza tires and received a high decibel straight exhaust for crowd safety. The speed limiter was also removed from the car.

Subaru, Prodrive and Mark Higgins will attempt to break the record he set in 2014 at the Isle of Man this June. The lap record on the fabled 37-mile course was hit at an average lap speed of 117.510 and a time of 19 minutes and 15 seconds. By the looks of this Prodrive 2016 Subaru WRX STI, they could blow that time away easily. Stay tuned.
