BRZ Sales Take A Downward Slide - Why It Doesn’t Bother Subaru

The 2023 Subaru BRZ is the slowest-selling model in Subaru of America's lineup, but it doesn't bother the Camden, N.J. automaker. Here is why and what's next for the sport coupe.

The 2023 Subaru BRZ rear-drive sport coupe is the slowest-selling vehicle in Subaru of America's all-wheel-drive lineup. But Subaru is not worried because the rear-drive BRZ has a specific purpose, and it's about something other than sales volume. It's quality over quantity.

The BRZ is Subaru's only rear-wheel-drive car, and it's not intended to be a high-volume model. The sport coupe is considered a boutique model to get new customers in the door of Subaru retailers. The BRZ can be an excellent daily driver, but it's a second car for most driving enthusiasts.

And when a BRZ owner outgrows the two-door coupe, they will return to Subaru and buy one of its top-selling SUVs, an all-wheel-drive Crosstrek, Forester, or Outback.

BRZ is last again in August sales volume.

The 2023 BRZ sports coupe is still the bottom dweller in SOA's lineup, with 268 sales in August, compared with 308 sport coupes delivered in August 2022. BRZ was down 12.9 percent in August but still up 40.5 percent for the year, with 3,091 models sold to customers.

The BRZ is an excellent value for sports car enthusiasts. What is the price of the 2023 Subaru BRZ?

The 2023 Subaru BRZ comes in two trim levels with two transmission options. The BRZ Premium with a 6-speed manual gearbox has a starting price of $29,615. BRZ Premium with an automatic transmission starts at $33,115. The Limited (6-speed manual) has a starting MSRP of $32,115. The Limited with an automatic transmission starts at $33,255.

The BRZ is an excellent value and is the lowest cost to own a sports car.

Kelley Blue Book (KBB) says the 2023 Subaru BRZ is the best new vehicle in its category you can buy.

KBB says the 2023 BRZ retains its value better than all other vehicles and is the lowest cost-to-own model in its category. KBB predicted the 2023 BRZ to have a 5-year cost-to-own of $39,908 (including the purchase price), which is $16,519 less than the sports car segment average.

New upgrades are coming to the 2024 BRZ, creating excitement for the sport coupe. Subaru recently announced the new 2024 BRZ tS sport coupe.

The big news is that the 2024 BRZ tS is the first manual transmission vehicle equipped with EyeSight safety technology
