After The Shut Off, You Can Now Order A New Subaru Forester And Crosstrek Again

The refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester and 2022 Crosstrek orders were shut off but they are now back online. Check out what it means for new car shoppers.

The microchip shortages and supply chain issues have hit Subaru of America hard in 2022. A source close to Subaru told us that the refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester orders were shut off for three weeks, and the 2022 Crosstrek was down for two weeks in March. But both models are now back online for Subaru of America retailers.

Our source told us Subaru of America shut down all new 2022 Forester compact SUV orders on Monday, March 7, and the 2022 Crosstrek subcompact SUV a week later on March 14.

Subaru Corporation stopped production of the Forester and Crosstrek for ten days in 2022 because of supply chain issues and after a major earthquake in Japan.

Subaru is especially susceptible to the shortage of semiconductors and Automotive News (by subscription) says “because of its small size and extensive use of commonized components, executives say.” CFO Katsuyuki Mizuma told Automotive News it was still unclear when supply chains and production levels would return to normal.

What does it mean for U.S. customers this spring?

Customers in the U.S. can now order the refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester and new 2022 Crosstrek all-wheel-drive models from Subaru of America retailers.

What is the best way to order a Forester or Crosstrek?

During the new model shortages, ordering a new vehicle from Subaru retailers and shipping from the factory is the customer's best option. Building the new car ensures you get the exact trim level, color, and option package you want and is a little-known method to save time tracking down a vehicle that fits your needs.

You can also lock in the price ahead of time, and there are no surprises. Subaru of America is unique regarding tight inventory because U.S. retailers have been selling through their pipeline for years. The most important thing through this process is to have patience.

What is the price of the 2022 Subaru Forester?

The 2022 Forester comes in six trim levels; The base Forester starts at $26,320, Premium ($29,320), Sport ($30,890), Limited ($33,000), new Wilderness ($33,945), and Touring ($36,420). Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,125).

What is the price of the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek?

The 2022 Crosstrek comes in five trim levels for customers. The base trim has an MSRP of $23,570, Premium ($24,720), Sport ($27,920), Limited ($29,420) and Crosstrek Hybrid ($37,895). Prices include destination and delivery fees ($1,125).

How long will it take to have the models shipped from Japan?

If you order a new 2022 Subaru Forester or 2022 Crosstrek this spring, it will take approximately four-to-six months to get the model through the pipeline and the backorders of the popular SUVs. Stay tuned to Torque News via Subaru Report for the latest new model updates.

Hello, I have recently been thru the exercise of trying to buy a Forester Premium. I even got to the point of paying $5000 over MSRP for one...until they pulled the old stunt of..."oops, we were looking at the wrong rebuild instruction...the new build will cost you another $1000 for this Forester" - we walked out on that one.
How does one order from the factory? How does one avoid the high MSRP adders that are truly a form of robbery? Do we have to go thru a Subaru dealer to process a Forester purchase ordered from the factory? Can we use a non Subaru dealership to purchase a new Forester when ordering thru the factory? Thanks for answering these questions - Subaru is suffering a loss of sales because of the MSRP excesses and the dealer's greed and excuses. Help!!! Jim

I work for Burke Subaru in NJ. all of our vehicles are at msrp. You will find that most dealerships are charging over msrp due to the lack of inventory. You cannot order a forester directly from Subaru you have to go through a dealership.
