Significant changes are coming to the next-generation Crosstrek that customers should know. They could affect your buying decision. Subaru of America announced pricing and trim levels for the new Crosstrek that arrives this spring.

If you can wait the 2024 Crosstrek will be worth standing by. The Crosstrek gets a complete redesign from the ground up. It will come with improved ride quality, the next-generation EyeSight safety technology, new interior upgrades with more comfortable seats, and new exterior styling changes.

New power upgrade

Subaru announced the Crosstrek Sport and Limited with the 2.5-liter gets a small bump in torque. The previous model had 182 horsepower and 176 lb. -ft. of torque. The 2024 Crosstrek now has 182 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2.0-liter engine stays with 152 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque.

The good news is the 2024 Crosstrek stays with 8.7 inches of ground clearance, X-Mode, and dual function X-Mode for all-terrain performance.

2024 Subaru Crosstrek

Subaru dropped the Crosstrek manual transmission.

Another significant change is Subaru will drop the 6-speed manual gearbox in the new Crosstrek. Instead, all 2024 Crosstrek trim levels will come with a Lineartronic Continually Variable automatic Transmission (CVT). Subaru dropped the fully synchronized 6-speed manual gearbox in the next-generation model so that all trim levels can be equipped with EyeSight safety technology.

The new 2024 Crosstrek will now come with the latest generation EyeSight driver assist technology and Driver Monitoring System called Driver Focus to offer another level of safety and help reduce the chance of accidents.

Two Crosstrek trims are now made in the U.S.

U.S. customers will get two Crosstrek trim levels sooner because they aren’t shipped from Japan. Crosstrek Sport and Limited will be produced in the U.S. for the first time in Lafayette, Indiana, and will not take as long if you order one. The Base and Premium trims will be made in Japan and will take longer.

What is the price of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek?

For 2024, the Crosstrek will be available in Base, Premium, Sport, and Limited trim levels and has a starting price of $26,290 (the same MSRP as the 2023 Base model equipped with the Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission).

The 2024 Crosstrek Premium has a starting price of $27,440, Sport ($30,290), and Limited ($32,190). Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,225). The Premium trim price increased by +$70, the Sport +$1,070, and Limited +$1,470.

The Base and Premium trim levels will arrive this spring for U.S. customers. The 2.0-liter Boxer engine powers both models. The knock against the 2.0-liter engine is that it is underpowered for customers who live at altitude and use the vehicle for trips over a high mountain pass. However, the 2.0-liter engine will perform well if you live at sea level.

Customers who want the extra power will want to wait for the 2024 Crosstrek Sport and Limited trim levels. They both come with the 2.5-liter Boxer producing considerably more horsepower and torque. In addition, the two trims will have enough power for outdoor enthusiasts to carry extra cargo, gear, and even a rooftop carrier.

When will the Crosstrek Wilderness trim arrive?

The excellent news is Subaru of America will get a new 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness trim level. Subaru still needs to release information on the Wilderness specifications, but the more rugged Wilderness will likely have increased ground clearance over the standard model. It could be uncovered at the New York Auto Show on April 5. Stay tuned.

The bad news is the 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness will arrive later, and the wait will be longer, possibly into early 2024. However, if you can wait, the Crosstrek Wilderness will get significant upgrades over the standard model. Check out the Wilderness report here.

Our Take

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Premium trim is a good value for small SUV shoppers. The standard Crosstrek is a capable all-weather, all-terrain subcompact SUV that fits active lifestyles. The Crosstrek Sport and Limited trim levels offer outdoor enthusiasts the more powerful 2.5-liter Boxer engine.
