Subaru of America teased a Wilderness logo and said there's an all-new member of the Subaru Wilderness family coming on April 5, 2023. During the press event, Subaru will uncover the new Wilderness Edition at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). The general public can view the new Wilderness from April 7-16.

Subaru will likely have a live reveal on its social media pages and reveal the third Wilderness model for the U.S. all-wheel-drive lineup. Here is what Subaru said.

2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness tease

Subaru of America says, "There's an all-new member of the Subaru Wilderness family out there, and it's heading to the New York International Auto Show. With all-terrain upgrades, rugged style, and trusted safety, Subaru Wilderness vehicles bring the legendary capability of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive to a whole new frontier of adventure, and we'll be streaming the reveal live from the auto show."

What's your guess?

It should be the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness trim level. However, sources close to Subaru leaked the information long before this announcement. Although Subaru is tight-lipped and has not officially said it will be the Crosstrek Wilderness.

What should U.S. customers expect?

The all-new Crosstrek Wilderness will have increased ground clearance (likely 9.2-inches like Forester), 17-inch black wheels wrapped in Yokohama Geolander all-terrain tires, dual-function X-Mode, StarTex upholstery, a 180-degree front monitor, anodized Copper interior, and exterior accents, and Wilderness badging.

Will the Crosstrek Wilderness get the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine?

It's unlikely the Crosstrek Wilderness will get the FA24 2.4-liter turbocharged engine upgrade like the Outback Wilderness. Instead, look for the Crosstrek Wilderness to be powered by the naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter Boxer engine like the Sport and Limited trims.

What is the price of the Crosstrek Wilderness?

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness will slot between the Sport and Limited trim levels and be priced around $3,000 more than the Sport trim. So look for the Crosstrek Wilderness to be priced at just under $30,000.

Outdoor enthusiasts won't have to wait much longer for the more rugged Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness trim level. Like the Sport and Limited trims, we expect the Crosstrek Wilderness to be built at the U.S. plant in Lafayette, Indiana. The new Wilderness family is growing, and its latest addition will be unveiled on April 5, 2023, at the NYIAS. Stay tuned.

I think the Crosstrek makes the most sense. The Ascent is so much larger than a vehicle I would want to take anyplace challenging that I feel it would be mostly just marketing. A Crosstrek with the full-whammy Wilderness kit could easily be the brand's most off-pavement capable vehicle. Fingers crossed, the next one adds fixed recovery points front and rear and keeps the all-important 3PMSF tires!

hoping Subaru comes out with a Baja type truck. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is killing it here in the states and I need one but would rather buy a Japanese product so it's up to Subaru or Toyota to bring it in. ASAP Please!!

We have owned a Subaru since 1989 and love them, but I too wish they would bring back the Subaru BAJA based on the new Wilderness Forester. - Forester roofline is higher then on the Outback, which makes getting In or Out easier as you get older. - Keeping my eye out, as I wrote a letter to Subaru in 2015 stating all the reasons they should bring that body style out again, just before Hyundai lauched the Santa Cruz.
Fingers crossed soon to have a Subaru PU to join our two Forester's !
