U.S. News and World Report evaluated 256 vehicles and named winners in 21 categories in their annual “2016 Best Cars For Families”. In the wagon category, it’s the 2016 Subaru Outback that gets the honors. Outback is no stranger to these awards, the SUV-alternative vehicle wins for the fifth straight year in the wagon category. Why is it a consistent winner?

US News touts 5 things that set it apart

According to US News and World Report, there are 5 reasons why the 2016 Subaru Outback is the best wagon in its class again. US News says the new SUV-alternative wagon is the best wagon out there for families. The multi-purpose wagon was recognized for its “go anywhere” AWD capability, spacious cabin, generous cargo space, and its numerous achievements in safety and reliability.

The 2016 Outback wagon has also been highly praised by the automotive press. US News took into account the opinions of the automotive press about a car's performance, interior features and interior comfort, along with reliability and safety ratings. It’s received multiple awards since the wagon was redesigned for the 2015 model year.

Numerous awards

The new-generation wagon was recognized by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) last Fall, where the Subaru Outback was named the Best New SUV/CUV (Under $35,000). Other accolades include the ALG (formerly Automotive Lease Guide) Residual Value Award, Midsize Utility (2 row) Segment (for five consecutive years) and the Canadian Black Book Best Retained Value Award in the Mid-Size Car Category. The 2016 Subaru Outback has also achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) 2015 Top Safety Pick as well as a 2015 Top Safety Pick+ (models equipped with optional EyeSight).

The 2016 Subaru Outback ranks number one and beats finalists Ford C-Max Hybrid and Volkswagen Golf SportWagen this year. The Outback was also a finalist for the “2016 Best Wagon for the Money” award. US News says, “The 2016 Subaru Outback has the best combination of interior space, safety and reliability ratings, and available family-friendly features in its class, making it our 2016 Best Wagon for Families.”

The fifth-generation 2016 Subaru Outback comes with a roomier interior, a more capable chassis and higher fuel efficiency. It comes with a new updated design with an enhanced AWD system and it’s quieter than the previous generation. The wagon also comes with the highest safety ratings and latest safety performance. The 2016 Subaru Outback wagon gets new refinements that keeps it on the “Best Cars For Families” award list for five years running.
