Chrysler is recalling 163,735 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs because trim on the driver and passenger doors may detach while the vehicle is in motion. A separate but very similar recall is also underway because of problems with a different piece of door trim. The second recall affects 123,396 of the same vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA has the details about the recalls even thought technically NHTSA is included in the government shutdown.
According to NHTSA the problem is a safety risk for other drivers. "Detached trim pieces can create a road hazard for other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash."
Why the Vehicles Are Being Recalled
The recall covers all Jeep Grand Wagoneers and Wagoneers from model years 2022 through 2025. According to NHTSA's safety recall reports, the recall is related to a vehicle assembly issue, not a parts defect.
“Some 2022-2025 MY Jeep Grand Wagoneer vehicles may have been built with a front door day light opening ("DLO") trim which may detach from the vehicle. The suspect vehicle population began on February 24, 2021, when the 2022 MY vehicle production began, and ended on February 1, 2025, when vehicles were no longer being shipped with improperly secured DLO trim. Vehicle production and engineering change records were used to determine the suspect population.”
The second, smaller recall affects 2022-2024 Grand Wagoneers and Wagoneers with quarter window trim. “Some 2022-2024 MY Jeep Wagoneer vehicles may have been built with a quarter window trim which may detach from the vehicle.”
Luckily, the company has not been notified of any accidents or injuries tied to the trim problems.
According to the larger recall paperwork, Chrysler and Jeep said it received 405 warranty claims, three field reports and 112 service records possibly tied to the trim issue. Chrysler is aware of 3 customer assistance records, 1,710 warranty claims, one field report, and 40 other service records potentially relating to quarter window trim issue.
How Chrysler and Jeep Will Fix the Issue
The 2022-2025 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer owners will all be asked to bring their vehicles in where technicians will check to see if the trim is secured properly. Any trim that is loose or missing will be replaced or properly secured. Any owners who had the problems fixed before the recall will be reimbursed.
Owners can call Chrysler's customer service number at 1-800-853-1403, for more information about when parts will be available.
The larger recall for nearly 165,000 Wagoneers and Grand Wagoneers is NHTSA Recall number 25V593. The Chrysler number for that recall is 77C. The recall for 123,396 of the same vehicles is NHTSA recall number 25V642 and Chrysler recall number is 88C.

While car companies are focusing on cramming more gimmicky toys and laziness-enabling tech in their cars, they're forgetting how to even bolt the doors on.
It is so easy to see why the auto industry is in a crisis, and most of these companies are not going to survive after I release my line of ridiculously affordable family cars.
