Kia Quietly Teases A New Soul Model

Sometimes, an automaker will pull a fast one when announcing new model or variant. Whether it be flashing an image during a commercial or dropping bread crumbs in a press release.

Case in point is Kia. In their latest ad featuring the Soul and the dancing hamsters (Kia would prefer you call them Hamstars), Kia drops some information on a new powertrain. Towards the end of the ad, Kia shows off the powertrains on offer; Gas, Electric, and Turbo. You might be wondering when Kia added a turbo option to the Soul. But it's when you see the 'Winter 2016' that you realize it's coming soon.

Rumors of Kia doing a turbocharged Soul have been flying around since Kia introduced the Track'ster concept back at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. This concept featured a turbocharged engine. What engine could Kia use for the Soul turbo? Car and Driver speculates it could be the turbocharged 1.6L four-cylinder found under the hood of the Forte Koup and Forte5 hatchback. The turbo 1.6L produces 201 horsepower.
