Hyundai Tucson and Veloster Rank At the Top for J.D. Power 2020

The Hyundai Tucson and Hyundai Veloster both rank at the top for its respective categories for the J.D. Power 2020 initial quality testing.

Although I don’t put much merit behind it, J.D. Power has rewarded the Hyundai Tucson and Hyundai Veloster top spots for its respective category. It might not mean much to me or even to you reading this, but it is positive press for an automaker when they get an award from J.D. Power. I get it, Chevy has gotten ten too many rewards from J.D. already, and it looks like Dodge might be on the fast track to collecting some trophies also, but I digress. Let’s look into Hyundai’s achievements today.

JD PowerMy experience with Hyundai

I have reviewed a lot of Hyundai’s, and quality is not an area of complaint. I owned a 2019 Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec, and it was phenomenal. Aside from the sporty Veloster, the rest of Hyundai’s lineup is so refined and comfortable. These are the most important attributes for me in a daily driver car, and the fact that Hyundai throws in a plethora of standard features and a decade long warranty is the cherry on top.

Hyundai wins the J.D. Power Award

Initial quality tests measure new cars only, so the 2020 Hyundai Tucson got chosen to be the best compact SUV. The new Hyundai Veloster was the best in initial quality for the compact sporty car quality. Other vehicles in the Hyundai lineup were in the test as well, of course, the Accent and Elantra finished second for its class. The new Hyundai Santa Fe finished third.

And yes, Hyundai was very thrilled at winning the awards, of course. Hyundai quoted how it was a milestone to be the best vehicle in the segment, and it was a testament to Hyundai’s dedication, etc. And it’s true. For once, a company that deserves the award got it, and I’m happy for Hyundai because the general public puts a lot of weight behind J.D. Power awards.

Hyundai PR TeamHow do J.D. Power Awards work?

How do the J.D. Power awards work? The 2020 Initial Quality Study is the result of 87,282 completed surveys from purchasers or lessees of 2020 model-year vehicles. Questionnaires get sent out after 90 days of ownership. This information gets sold to automotive manufacturers, and yes, when you get a J.D. Power survey in the mail, you will be presented with a crisp new $1 bill. No, you’re not getting bribed, it is an incentive for you to complete the little survey.

Is the system flawed, probably? Humans won’t talk about a positive experience, but when they have something to complain about, people start filling out surveys and writing reviews. Again, this isn’t indicative of every person, and every survey filled out, but it is something ponder.

Hyundai winning J.D. Power Award conclusion

I’m happy for Hyundai as the company got some positive press out of it. I’ve reviewed many Hyundai’s, and I’ve been impressed to the point where I recommend Hyundai’s often to people who are unsure of what to buy amongst all this competition. Price, value, features, warranty, refinement are some of the primary reasons I recommend Hyundai.

I have a 2011 Genesis 3.8L Sedan with 190,000 on it. The only repair I've made on it(which was last month) is the front left hub assembly. I've done nothing else to the car, no repairs or anything else! Just oil and filters. It still has the original spark plugs, coils, etc....
Best car I have ever owned!
