Why Selling Your Older Subaru Now Is A Good Idea

Now is the best time if you need to sell your older Subaru. Subaru dealers need your Forester, Outback, and Crosstrek and are willing to pay more.

It's been a crazy two years for Subaru of America. Subaru retailers are shifting from selling new 2022 Subaru Forester, Outback, and Crosstrek models and pushing their used cars to customers. It's due to Subaru having a severe shortage of new 2022 Forester and Crosstrek models across North America.

Just drive by any Subaru retailer in the U.S., and you won't find many new Subaru Forester, Outback, and Crosstrek models sitting on their lots. If you do, they have already been pre-sold and are waiting for the pre-delivery inspection and their new owners to pick them up.

Do you need to sell an older Subaru?

If you have a car you aren't driving, there has never been a better time to sell or trade your old vehicle. Because of the recent changes, many employees are now working from home, and they don't need a second vehicle. It's never been a better time to unload that vehicle sitting in the driveway.

Subaru retailers need your older model and will pay top dollar to get their hands on it. They have more buyers than cars and want low milage 2020 or 2021 lightly used Forester, Outback, and Crosstrek SUVs.

How do you know if you are getting the best price for your car?

There are plenty of great automotive websites that offer free car values. NADA and KBB are great examples. You can check the value of your used Subaru and go in armed with current information. It's an excellent idea to cross-shop different Subaru dealers. You might find a better deal at another retailer.

A recent report from we-ha.com says all new car dealers need the inventory badly. A Subaru owner had a lease coming due. Subaru would not negotiate, so he went to a Honda dealer and effectively got a year's worth of car payments applied to his new lease on a new Honda for selling that dealer his older Subaru.

Do you have to buy a new car to sell your older model to a Subaru retailer?

Retailers will offer to buy your car even if you don't buy a new 2022 Subaru from them.

A recent report from iSeeCars reveals some one-and-two-year-old used Subaru models like Crosstrek are in such high demand that they sell for more than a new 2022 model. Read the full report here.

Subaru's dilemma is not going away anytime soon. New 2022 Subaru Forester and Crosstrek models take four-to-six months for delivery if you order a new model now.

It's never been a better time to sell your older Subaru. Subaru retailers want to buy your older Forester, Outback, and Crosstrek, and they are giving you top dollar now.
