Subaru’s Best And Worst New Vehicles in 2024

Here are the best and worst new Subaru models of 2024. Check the latest report before you buy.

Which are the best and worst new Subaru models of 2024? I will give you my expert opinion of the models you should look forward to and those you should pass on.

All Subaru vehicles come with the automaker's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system (except for the rear-drive BRZ sports car), the SUVs have extra ground clearance (8.7 inches), X-Mode for severe weather capability, get the top safety scores from the IIHS, come with EyeSight driver assist safety technology, they are affordable, and have better than average fuel mileage. I won't repeat the same information in ranking the models below.

2024 Subaru Forester driving off road

1. Subaru Forester

The 2024 Subaru Forester is the top pick because the compact SUV has cargo room, superior outward visibility, and fuel economy, and it's the best value for the price of all the Subaru models. It comes in Forester Wilderness trim for outdoor enthusiasts who want to get further off the grid.

The Forester is a top pick by Consumer Reports, which says the Forester is one of the top ten best cars of 2024 and one of the most reliable new compact SUVs you can buy

2024 Subaru Crosstrek in the mountains

2. Subaru Crosstrek

The next-generation 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is the second-best model because of its complete redesign. The popular Crosstrek is affordable and has two engine options: the new 2.5-liter Boxer and 2.0-liter Boxer. It also comes in Crosstrek Wilderness trim for outdoor enthusiasts who want to get further off the grid.

The 2024 Crosstrek is rated the most reliable Subaru model by Consumer Reports, with a top score of 99/100.

2024 Subaru Outback driving off road

3. Subaru Outback

The 2024 Subaru Outback is the third-best Subaru model. The midsize SUV is a top pick because It offers a rare combination for families. Outback has a car's driving dynamics but has an SUV's utility. You won't find that in any other SUV/Crossover vehicle.

The Outback is number three because of some reliability issues, and Subaru is addressing the problems. The Outback also comes with the Wilderness trim for those wanting to go off-road. Outback Wilderness offers superior all-terrain capability.

A next-generation Outback is coming in 2025. Customers may want to wait for the redesigned Outback.

4. Subaru Impreza

The 2024 Subaru Impreza is all-new and gets the same upgrades as the 2024 Crosstrek. The Impreza is the top four model because of its affordability, fuel mileage, 5-door hatchback utility, it has two engine options, and it comes in a new sporty RS trim level.

5. Subaru WRX

The 2024 Subaru WRX is the surprise pick at number five. It's because reliability has improved significantly. The performance sports car is now a recommended model by Consumer Reports.

The 2024 WRX gets a new TR trim level with added performance upgrades. The 6-speed manual trims have EyeSight compatibility for the first time.

6. Subaru Ascent

The 2024 Subaru Ascent 3-Row SUV is underperforming because of its fuel mileage and lack of a Wilderness trim level. The Ascent has all the excellent Subaru family traits but could also benefit from a hybrid trim level.

The next-generation 2025 Subaru Ascent announcement is upcoming. Stay tuned.

7. Subaru BRZ

The 2025 Subaru BRZ is the best value sports car you can buy. It's the number four Subaru model in reliability, has a new 2.4-lier Boxer engine, and, like the WRX, 6-speed manual trims now come standard with EyeSight for the first time.

The 2024 BRZ has a new tS trim level with added performance upgrades.

8. Subaru Solterra

Subaru's first electric vehicle is an excellent all-weather family SUV and would be ranked higher except for its limited range. Subaru has to rely on Toyota for re-engineering because it's a joint venture between the two automakers. The Solterra is Subaru's seventh most reliable model.

9. Subaru Legacy

The 2024 Subaru Legacy is last on the list because the sedan is not a popular body style. The Legacy is still a good choice for those wanting a sedan. Legacy has two engine options and the sporty XT turbo trim, but it lacks one thing. Legacy would benefit from a hybrid powertrain. Legacy gets a remodel in 2025. Stay tuned.
