Subaru announced the 2018 Subaru WRX along with the 2018 Impreza, Legacy, and Outback earned the 2018 TOP SAFETY PICK + award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Why doesn’t the new 2018 WRX STI also get the award, and how does the performance car compare with the VW Golf R, Honda Civic Type R, and Ford Focus RS?

Performance fans can feel safe in crash protection when behind the wheel of the 2018 WRX. It gets the top IIHS award when equipped with the brand’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology and LED Steering Responsive Headlights. EyeSight is only available on WRX with the CVT automatic transmission. Subaru can’t install it on the 6-speed manual cars.
