"If you own a 2017 - 2022 Honda CR-V, please read this!"
That's what Eve Graves posted on the Honda CR-V Community Facebook post. Her AC wasn't blowing cold air in the heat this summer, so she called Honda to see what the problem was.
Fortunately, she did because she discovered there is a known issue with the 2017 to 2022 Honda CR-V AC unit.
During a summer heatwave, Eve noticed her normally ice-cold A/C was blowing warm. After contacting her local dealership, she discovered a known issue with the A/C compressor shaft seal affecting 2017-2022 CR-V models.
While not officially a safety recall, Honda has quietly extended the warranty to 10 years with unlimited mileage, a fact many owners are learning secondhand. This is a critical reminder for all CR-V owners to be proactive about their vehicle's maintenance.
Here is what Honda CR-V owners need to know.
Eve says, "My A/C has always been like an ice box, and I LOVE it. But I noticed on a couple of hot days two weeks ago that it wasn't as hot as normal. Slight difference, not huge."
"So, I called our local Honda dealer and was told it could be a leak in it, and I would be under warranty. I called another Honda dealer I trust more and explained it, they said yes, even if it is only noticeable when it's hot, that could be a leak."
"I called the dealer I purchased my car from, and they said the same."
"I brought it in, they put a new one in, and told me it is a known issue with the 2022 CR-V."
"BUT I'm assuming because it isn't a dangerous thing, just an inconvenience, they are not doing a recall. I have a new one and a 10-year warranty on it."
"So...IF you have a 2022 CR-V, I'd take it in," she concludes.
Is there a known issue with the 2022 Honda CR-V with the AC not blowing cold?
Yes, there's a known issue with the 2022 Honda CR-V's AC system, specifically related to the AC compressor shaft seal. American Honda has extended the warranty on this part to 10 years from the original purchase date, with no mileage limitation.
So, if your 2022 CR-V's AC is not blowing cold due to this issue, the Honda dealer will likely fix it for free under the extended warranty.
Is there a recall for the 2022 Honda CR-V for the AC unit?
Honda does not have an official recall related to the air conditioning system for the 2022 CR-V, specifically concerning an AC compressor shaft seal leak. However, Honda does have a Service Bulletin concerning the AC blowing warm air or stopping entirely due to a refrigerant leak.
The Issue: The AC compressor shaft seal can swell, deform, and eventually leak, leading to refrigerant loss and poor cooling performance.
Affected Vehicles: The recall primarily affects Honda CR-Vs from the 2017-2022 model years, including the 2022 model.
Warranty Extension: Honda has extended the warranty on the AC compressor shaft seal to 10 years from the original purchase date, with no mileage limitation.
How to Check: You can verify if your specific 2022 CR-V is affected by using the RepairPal recall checker or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website with your VIN.
Customer Notification: If your vehicle is affected, Honda will send you a notification by mail. However, Eve says she did not receive the notice.
What Should Honda CR-V Owners Do?
If your vehicle's AC is not blowing cold as it should, the dealership will inspect the AC system and replace the compressor shaft seal if necessary.
In conclusion,
The story of Eve Graves highlights a critical issue for many 2017-2022 Honda CR-V owners.
The problem with the 2022 Honda CR-V AC compressor is a known defect that can lead to frustratingly warm air and a loss of cooling.
Fortunately, American Honda has acknowledged the issue and has extended the Honda CR-V AC warranty to an impressive 10 years with unlimited mileage.
This means that if your 2017-2022 CR-V is experiencing poor cooling, you can likely get the AC system repaired for free. We strongly advise all owners to check their vehicle's status, especially if their AC performance has declined.
Don't wait for a formal notice; proactively contact your dealership to address the CR-V AC not blowing cold issue and ensure your vehicle is comfortable for years to come.
Please note that the information provided here is based on the experience of a Honda CR-V owner and may not apply to all cases. We recommend consulting with your local Honda dealership for specific issues related to your vehicle.

I have a 2022 Honda Civic with the identical air conditioning problem. Both the CR-V and Civic have the same air conditioning unit. Initially, Honda wanted to charge me $3000.00 to fix their well known problem, but Honda America intervened and authorized the repair with only a $150.00 co-pay. I consider this a win and Kudos to Honda for stepping up. IMHO there should be a full recall issued with a well advertised 10 year extended warranty

Our 2019 CRV will stop cooling intermittently, especially when outside temperatures are in the 90s. Can be running or on start up. Coolant is fine, not leaking. Heard this is a common CRV problem that mechanics cannot find/fix if it is working correctly when you bring it in for service. Any suggestions?

I experienced this issue two years ago. The bulletin from Honda has been published for a bit now. Same story.. one day AC fine, next day hot air. Took it to Honda (IL location). Told me would be $3200 to fix. I went home and started researching only to find out a service bulletin was published by Honda a few months prior. Told the dealer that and of course they were like oh we didnt know. How do you not know as a Honda dealer and authorized service center? Anyway they said will be fixed under warranty but had to order the seal. When seal came in they told me to bring car in. Then called me and told me they had bad news... the lines the refrigerant travel through had a few small holes from the pressure when compressor seal blew. Now they wanted $2500. I called Honda because ai also found a bulletin by trans safety board that looked in to this recall and told Honda this issue will also cause damage to the lines as it did with mine, and recommended Honda include in their bulletin. Dealer told me to go jump. So i called Honda America. They researched snd ended up issuing me a credit (they pay it direct to the dealer). So now it was going to cost $465. But dealer damaged the compressor when changing seal, so they used some sort of insurance they carry to pay the rest. I ended up paying like $200. Long story but point is know your rights as a consumer. Honda knows that once the failed seal causes total refrigerant loss the next thing affected is the lines (and possibly sensor too). If you have one of these model years and havent had the issue fixed yet (seal) go get er done now and save yourself a headache later.

So no issues like this the owner in the article. Mine is with the display set temp not being what the interior temp should be or close 1-2 degrees. So I did some testing on my mown. To get the interior to let’s say 73 I need to set the temp to 65. That is a too big of a swing. Olin my opinion . I went round in round with this with The dealer and Honda to no solution. The HVAC cools fine . It just the censors that measure the interior air are off about 7-8 degrees. I compared it to other vehicles and they kept the actual interior Temps close to twnat the setting shows. Be nice if I could open a class action on this cause I feel Ho da doesn’t want to acknowledge and provide a solution for it.
