The Hot Next-Generation Subaru Crosstrek Sets Two New Records

How hot can one subcompact SUV be? Check the impressive finish the all-new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek had to end 2023. As the bell tolled at midnight, Crosstrek crossed the finish line with fireworks.

When Subaru introduced the next-generation 2024 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV, I knew it would be a hit with Subaru of America’s customers. It was all-new from the ground up, and a new Crosstrek Wilderness arrived before the year ended. It was an exciting end to a good year.

How hot can one Subaru all-wheel-drive model be? It was an impressive finish for Crosstrek.

As I said previously in my Subaru year-end report, the all-new Subaru Crosstrek is on fire. The hot Crosstrek set two new records to finish in 2023. It was the best-ever December and year ever for the new Subaru Crosstrek.

As Subaru of America retailers get the all-new 2024 Crosstrek, sales of the subcompact SUV were up in December, and Crosstrek is the best seller in the lineup. Crosstrek sales were up 17.1 percent, with 15,799 models delivered to customers in December compared with 13,491 in December 2022.

More impressive is that Crosstrek’s 159,193 total 2023 sales achieved the best year ever, up 3 percent from 2022 when it was SOA’s top-selling model

In 2022, the Crosstrek beat the odds when the second-generation model was the top-selling vehicle in Subaru of America’s lineup. And the Crosstrek almost made it two years in a row.

The Crosstrek was up 2.6 percent to end the year. Crosstrek finished 2023 second in the lineup behind Outback, with 159,193 models sold in 2023. Crosstrek completed 2023 with just 2,621 model sales behind the Outback (161,814).

It’s only up from here for the Crosstrek.

My Take

With the all-new 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness in the subcompact SUV lineup, I expect the Crosstrek to be back on top in 2024. More small SUV customers with active lifestyles want to get away from civilization and off the grid. Overlanding and camping are prominent in the Northeast, Mountain states, and Pacific Northwest, where the Crosstrek is a top seller.

Troy Poston, Senior Vice President of Sales for Subaru of America, said it well. “As we kick off 2024, we have great expectations of welcoming even more new customers and are eager to have them share their adventures with the largest range of vehicles available in Subaru’s history.”

It’s hard to tell if the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek will hit its ceiling this year. Stay tuned.

The only thing I DON'T like about the Subaru Crosstrek is that there's minimal cargo space. 2-3 Grocery bags, and the cargo area is full! You're expected to keep an emergency tote in there for jumper cables, a blanket, and other necessities in case you get stranded. You can't fit all of that in the cargo area of a Crosstrek. The vehicle needs to be one foot longer, and one foot wider.
