The Smokin’ Hot Subaru Crosstrek Just Pulled Off A First Ever - How About A Repeat?

Why are so many buyers picking the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek? See what the Crosstrek just pulled off to finish the year.

The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek is not just hot. It’s smokin’ hot. Subaru of America reports that Crosstrek had its best year ever. The subcompact SUV has never finished above third place in Subaru’s all-wheel-drive lineup. But the sizzling hot model is now the top sales leader for 2022.

The Crosstrek is the biggest surprise

The Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV was the surprise model in 2022. SOA delivered a record 155,142 Crosstreks to customers in 2022 compared with 127,466 in 2021. The hot Crosstrek finished the year up 21.7 percent, leading all Subaru models in total sales.

The 2023 Crosstrek had another strong month in December, with 13,491 models delivered to customers compared with 9,494 in December 2021, an increase of 42.1 percent leading all models in Subaru of America’s lineup.

Why is it a surprise Crosstrek now leads Outback and Forester?

The Subaru Crosstrek needs new upgrades, but Subaru Corporation chose to delay the remake one extra year. Crosstrek should have received a complete remodel in 2023 with Subaru’s five-year lifecycle. The second generation Crosstrek launched its dealer in 2018, and in 2023, it was due for the new model upgrades.

But because of supply chain interruptions and parts shortages, Subaru chose to delay the third-generation model change one more year. And it was a good decision because Crosstrek sales soared in 2022, and the 2023 Crosstrek sales have not slowed.

What the aging Subaru Crosstrek pulled off in 2022 is astounding

Typically sales drop off dramatically as customers wait for the next-generation model to arrive. It’s what happened to the Impreza compact sedan and hatchback. The Impreza is on a similar life cycle track, and the next-generation Impreza was also delayed, and sales dropped 33.5 percent last month and are down 7.5 percent for the year.

For the first time in the Crosstrek’s history, since it arrived in 2012, it is now the top-selling model in Subaru of America’s (SOA) all-wheel-drive lineup.

Crosstrek was in the right place at the right time

The Crosstrek was positioned perfectly when high gas prices hit, and there was a shift towards more fuel-efficient small SUVs. The affordability of the Crosstrek was also a factor, with prices of new cars reaching records.

What is the price of the 2023 Crosstrek?

Even with all trim levels getting a $600 price increase, the Crosstrek remains affordable. The base trim is priced from $24,870, Premium ($26,020), Special Edition ($27,970), Sport ($29,220), Limited ($30,720), and Crosstrek Hybrid ($38,070). Prices include destination and delivery fees ($1,225).

What is the Crosstrek fuel mileage?

The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek with the larger 2.5-liter Boxer engine comes with 30 more horsepower and gets an EPA estimated fuel mileage of 27/34 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg.

The 2023 Crosstrek with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine gets an EPA-estimated 28/33 mpg and 30 combined mpg.

You should wait for the 2024 Crosstrek

If you can wait a year, the third-generation Crosstrek gets significant upgrades. And the all-new Crosstrek Wilderness trim level will be the model to wait for next year. Check out a new report here.

The Subaru Crosstrek pulled off an astounding sales performance in 2022. The Crosstrek needs a remodel, but the aging subcompact SUV is now the top-selling model in Subaru of America’s all-wheel-drive lineup beating the Outback and Forester. The next-generation 2024 Crosstrek could do even better. Can it pull off a repeat?

The prices you list for the Crosstrek are way off. You will not get the Crosstrek for any where near $30k. Bump that up $2k. And if you want a few upgrades like quality sound system and and floor liners add at least $2k more

Then theres the mandatory folding that comes with a lovely vinyl zipper case that they charge you $70

I paid $34,900 for my 2022 in July. But i still love it

Bought a 2023 instead so I could still get the 6-speed manual transmission instead of the CVT. 2024s will only have CVTs.
