7 Things You Need To Know About Subaru Before You Even Consider Buying One

Before you even consider buying a 2020 Subaru Forester, Outback, or Crosstrek, there are 7 things you should know. You might change your mind about buying one after reading this.

The world is not a fun place right now and we need to lighten things up and have some fun at Subaru’s expense. The Subaru brand is made fun of because Forester and Outback owners are portrayed as liberal, granola-eating hippies, have stickers all over the back of their cars, and they love dogs more than their kids. While there is some truth to those things, there’s even more you should know before you buy one.

Subaru owners can’t catch a break and if you buy one you will be judged rightly or wrongly. According to custom license plate suppliers Click4Reg, Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, and WRX/STI drivers have the worst reputations among all car brands. They surveyed over 2,000 drivers to reveal the most common impressions people have of drivers of each car brand. If you drive a Subaru, you will not be liked by other drivers.

Insurify says the national average is 11.28 percent of drivers have a prior speeding ticket, while 20.12 percent of Subaru WRX drivers have speeding violations. The study says Subaru WRX owners are guilty of getting the most tickets, but they don’t even mention the WRX’s higher-performance 310 horsepower WRX STI stablemate. We have to assume, the car insurance company lumped both models into its findings.

Subaru has one all-wheel-drive vehicle that has the highest rate of at-fault accidents than any car in America. According to another recent report from Insurify, the Subaru Crosstrek compact SUV is involved in more accidents than any car in the US. The national average is 13.64 percent of all models on the road that have had at least one prior accident. Subaru's third best-selling car, the Crosstrek, ranks number one of all car models with a 25.81 percent accident rate.

Don't buy an older Subaru especially if you live in the Pacific Northwest or in the Rocky Mountains. There was a stretch when Portlanders kept waking up to find empty parking spaces. According to an Oregon newspaper, 20 older model Subarus were reported stolen each month in the City of Roses. Last December, a staggering 90 Subarus were reported stolen. Near Denver, Simply Subie club members were hit with “easily over 100 stolen Subarus” stolen in July 2017.

Bears love Subaru Outback models more than any other car for some reason. If you buy an Outback wagon and live near bears you could be targeted. It seems every spring or early summer, there’s a story about a bear trapped in a Subaru Outback destroying the inside. The bears are looking for food and Outback owners seem to leave food in their cars. Maybe it’s dog food.

You'll love Subaru if you are a pilot

You should know Subaru didn’t start as a car company. In 1918, Nakajima Aircraft Company was founded by a Japanese naval engineer and built military aircraft. Eventually, the company split and Fuji Heavy Industries was born. Fuji Heavy decided to move into manufacturing several different fields, including its first vehicle the Subaru 360. Subaru still has an aircraft division and builds helicopters and wings for Boing jets to this day.

2020 Subaru Outback, 2020 Subaru Forester, 2020 Subaru CrosstrekWho really knows what the six stars on the Subaru logo signify?

Last but not least, you need to know why your new 2020 Subaru Forester or Outback has six stars in the logo. Some say they are a reference to the Pleiades star cluster in the Taurus constellation, which is said to be easy to spot in the night sky above Japan. Others say the large star symbolizes Fuji Heavy Industries and the five smaller stars indicate the five companies that merged to form FHI. But who really knows?

Had fords, many vw's and many jeeps. Subies are by far superior. Still drive a jeep. I live in the Rockies nothing beats a jeep for off road...nothing beats a subie on road. Our roads are crap. Subie can handle it. So suck an egg.

I woke up one morning, found Yogi the bear rummaging thru my Crosstrek, gnawing on my granola bars, bent the hell out of dog cage bars in the back. Needless to say, had to catch an Uber to work. The driver shows up in WRX, fast ride to work though. Besides, I cant be late, or Boing will fire me. Did I miss anything?

Learn how to spell everyone! Dumb journalists can't spell for some reason in 2020. If you take a million English classes to get your degree from your fancy University, why can't to spell correctly? Is there such a thing of proof reading anymore? Neither can anyone that posts, although I wasn't too surprised by that knowing they own a Subaru, but still come on people. Idiocracy was supposed to be s spoof movie WTF!!!!

I traded in my '15 Outback for a '17 WRX. That thing was a rocket! The best part about the all-wheel drive was how it made highway driving in the rain rock solid safe. Sadly, I needed the room for my family, including a pair of high schoolers. Traded the Subi in for a '19 Ram Crew Cab.

My first Subaru is the Ascent. Biggest POS I have ever owned. After 7 months had a flaw that locked up the motor. It took the sorry dealership FOUR MONTHS to repair it. The passenger side windows pillar had popped off and been replaced THREE TIMES and just yesterday had popped off yet again. I've also replaced the battery twice in the 20 months that I've owned it.
Oh yeah, also had for recalls and had two of the blind spot sensors replaced.
Think twice before buying a new Subaru? I'll NEVER buy another one.

This article didn't talk about things you should really know. In car culture... it is assumed you vape if you drive a wrx. Not true, but the joke probably won't die. Recent subarus have had random recalls in terms of the issues. Which is true for any brand, but they aren't quite as reliable as they seem. Still not bad cars. The boxer engines are great if maintained well. Not like a Honda you can use and abuse. They ej engines are known for a myriad of issues when modified. I would still buy another, because like the article said we don't care what other people think.

This article is way too subjective. What about the good drivers? What about other Subaru models having accidents? Also what about the positive about owning a Subaru?

Subaru All models . Have worked on these cars they are rust buckets all parts under car rust out and are frozen . The deaths in these cars are very high they tell you that they are safe but there statistics show there not . also like it say above not all but most Subaru owners are rude and will cut over in front of you at a light , 75% of them are speeding witch is funny because these people are save the planet love to tailgate you and then pass you. This is hard to find anymore but they were court adding money to the price of the car for there let us pat our self on the back as we tell you how much we are doing for others . They don't sell cars they sell look what we did to help . The truth is THAT CHEVY DODGE AND FORD ALL SPEND MORE THAN SUBARU but they are not looking for a pat on the back.
But don't take my word for it look it up your self smart Subaru owner.

I bought my 1996 Subaru Imprezzza new in 1996 aside from routine mainrainsce it has needed very little. A few minor fixes but not much. The car still runs great even though it has 511,000 miles on it. I look forward to a new Imprezza but not for quite awhile yet.

Denise, this is a poor attempt at a hit piece. Sad writing, and i noticed you left out how Subaru leapfrogged Toyota and Honda to be #1 brand now in small suv sales.

I purchased a Subaru Forester on a lark after recalling how many owners I knew. Holy crap, WHAT A CAR! Did not even note its an all wheel drive machine and when an ice storm hit and everybody was getting stuck. I just blew right through since I had all 4 wheels digging in rather than 2 rear wheels pushing the front into snow drifts. And stopping? That ABS system was pheNOMinal!! Slam your foot on the brake and stop on a dime ON ICE!!!!

ALL THIS CAME AS A TOTAL SURPRISE because I wasn't even thinking about consequences, but only the advertising from previous owners. Never heard a bad word about them till I read the author's inane rationalizations. That's a liberal for you.

2018 Outback Limited. Good car but substandard seat quality. There's a bushing that squeaks badly as your weight shifts while riding. Thankfully, I found the bushingvto occasional lube. Now the seats . The leather seat bolsters have very thin cheap vinyl panels that tear at the stitches. Both of these conditions can be found experienced by other drivers. I would not have otherwise posted it here but I reached out to SOA through their website twice about the seat tears with no response. I have 26k miles and 3.5 years of ownership and have never had this happen on any other make vehicle I have owned.

You started by referring to laughs at Subarus expense, you are right! This whole article is a joke, well done, very well done my Padewan learner. One day you will be a Jedi, for now keep trying. With much experience and knowledge, you can write an article in 15 years, and it will be informative.
Respectfully,
A Subaru aficionado. (That is pronounced: a fishin' auto)

Who wrote this tripe, you should be ashamed of yourself. This is the most biased article I have ever read regarding any vehicle. I suspect you are confused with a Lada.
