Video footage of the Dodge Viper ACR record-setting Nürburgring session

Mum is still the word from Chrysler but thanks to the wonders of the internet, we have our first look at the 2010 Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR making laps around the Nürburgring en route to setting a stunning new record time of just 7:12.

Word broke late last night that the Dodge Viper ACR had reclaimed it’s street legal production car record which had most recently been set by the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition. The Viper ACR set the record in 2008 with a time of 7:22 and although it took the competition a couple years (and advanced traction and stability control systems, Porsche, Chevrolet and Lexus all bested the Viper’s numbers – until earlier this week. Unfortunately, we do not have any official word, video or pictures from Chrysler or their high performance SRT brand but thanks to a visitor at the Nürburgring during the Viper’s test session, we have our first look at the Viper tearing up “the ‘Ring”.

As you will see in the video below, this isn’t the jazzy in-car view that we have seen from Lexus and Chevrolet but this video clearly shows not one but three Dodge Vipers racing around the Nürburgring. There is a black and silver 2010 Viper SRT10 ACR, a black and green 2010 Viper SRT10 ACR and a bright red 2010 Viper SRT10 ACR-X – which is loud enough to very clearly set itself apart from the two street legal supercars. The videographer who grabbed this footage was kind enough to change locations so throughout the 3:25 video, we get a look at the three Vipers screaming and sliding their way around the world’s most famous road course. Since we haven’t gotten any official word from Dodge, it is unclear whether the black/silver or black/green Dodge Viper ACR set the record time of 7:12 but we do know that the bright red Viper ACR-X turned out an awesome 7:03 – making it the third fastest non-street legal vehicle to ever lap the ‘Ring. Best of all, this video gives us a great opportunity to hear these high revving, high performance V10s in action so make sure that you have your sound cranked up to hear what a true American supercar sounds like while it is smashing the record of the Porsche 911 GT2, the Corvette ZR1 and the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition.

By the way, the folks at the Viper Club of America deserve a shout-out for unearthing this video of the three 2010 Vipers during their record setting Nürburgring session, as well as staying on top of the Viper’s recent trip to the ‘Ring since before the results were announced. Just goes to show that sometimes, the best information comes from hardcore enthusiasts - and people who own supercars.
