Will 2022 Toyota RAV4 Feature Toyota’s New Multimedia System?

New Toyota Audio Multimedia system is bigger, faster, and more capable. Could 2022 RAV4 offer this?

Toyota recently launched its next generation Audio Multimedia system. This will be featured in the next-gen 2022 Tundra.

I have seen this system up close and personal in the all-new 2022 Tundra. It features five times the processing speed, up to 14-inch touch screens and expanded capabilities.

Really impressive in my opinion.

Today I explore the chances this could also be offered in 2022 RAV4.

2022 Toyota RAV4 Release Date

I expect the 2022 Toyota RAV4 to reach dealerships across the country by the end of this year. Let’s call it fourth quarter 2021 to be safe.

When Toyota announced its newest multimedia system back in June, the press release stated this would debut in fourth quarter of 2021.

The dates certainly match for a 2022 RAV4 and new multimedia pairing.

However, my initial thought was that Toyota was referring to Toyota Tundra 2022 model year when it said fourth quarter for the new system.

Then, it would roll out the system from there to other models.

Tundra is getting new Audio Multimedia.

However, there certainly does not appear to be anything saying that only the Tundra will receive this new system.

2022 RAV4 Changes

Toyota RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid were redesigned for the 2019 model year. This 2022 RAV4 will be three years into the newest generation.

We have received no information from Toyota about what to expect this upcoming year for RAV4.

Normally details would have been revealed by now.

Three years is too soon for a complete redesign so eliminate that option. It could be a year for a slight refresh. This could include exterior and interior styling updates, as well as a few new features.

In other countries, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 introduces a new trim level – RAV4 Adventure Hybrid. No word on if this could make its way to the United States as well.

There is also the possibility that no real changes are coming to RAV4 for 2022. Or a maybe few updates. Hard to say.
Maybe a fresh and new multimedia system?

2022 Toyota Multimedia

I can only go by what I have seen in-person for the 2022 Tundra Audio Multimedia system.

Tundra has new touch screens of either 8-inch or 14-inch sizes. Crystal clear picture, graphics, and camera views.

Over-the-air updates give real-time navigation coordinates and changes. Users can pinch and zoom their screens just like smartphones and tablets.

Also, new HMI (human machine interface) capabilities allow people to have a more conversational approach to voice commands. You can wake up a sleeping multimedia system by saying “Hi, Hey, Hello, and OK Toyota”.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will make technology life easier for passengers.

Plus, people can set up user profiles that store individual preferences like climate settings and audio favorites.

But will this be offered for 2022 RAV4?

Great topic, Jeff. As a vehicle tester, the most important item on my checklist for a great infotainment setup is wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. I'd love to see the new system migrate to the RAV4 Prime and Hybrid this model year. Such modern vehicles deserve the most put to date infotainment systems available. Toyota's RAV4 already has times two and three on my list: A volume knob and a touch-screen interface.

What I've heard from my contacts is that Toyota will go on hiatus with the Rav4 for the 2022MY due to the supply chain shortages (chips, foam, etc.) and divert those resources to the Tundra and Tacoma which have higher profit margins. Given Toyota has provided no guidance to date on the Rav4 for 2022MY it seems to be correct.

Excellent topic. Of all the things Toyota need to do to the 2022 RAV4 update it's put in a decent, modern, sharp, crisp and fast media display. I'd much rather have this new media display and system over a sunroof.
