A Game Changer: Toyota Debuts New 2022 Tundra Multimedia System

See how new 2022 Toyota Tundra multimedia capabilities can benefit you.

With so much information revealed all at the same time for 2022 Tundra, it is easy to see how certain topics could get lost in the shuffle.

Like the brand-new multimedia system.

Toyota announced plans back in June for an all-new multimedia system to be unveiled in fourth quarter 2021. I wrote a Torque News story three months ago wondering if third-gen 2022 Toyota Tundra might be the first model to get this new system.

I can happily say I was right.

Toyota Tundra is the first Toyota model (2022 Lexus NX too) to launch the new Toyota Audio Multimedia system. Look for larger screens, faster processing speeds, and increased capabilities.

Standard touch screen size is 8 inches but an available, whopping 14-inch screen may tempt buyers as well.

Yes, there will be an actual volume control knob. I am happy about this small but important improvement.

Processing times are five times faster than the previous Toyota multimedia system. We want our information correct and we also want it fast.

Looks like a double score here.

Toyota Tundra Appeals to the Senses

A new Human Machine Interface (HMI) allows for easy conversation interaction between you and your Tundra.

Instead of looking for just the right word to get the system going, HMI will wake up your voice commands interaction when you start with words like “Hey/Hi/Hello/OK Toyota”.

Maybe I can talk with my contacts at Toyota to wake up the system when I say “Wazzzzzuuuup”. Or maybe not.

You can also use common functions like pinch and zoom to highlight and focus in on your navigation coordinates.

Fans comment on 2022 Tundra

I asked my “ToyotaJeff Reviews” YouTube channel viewers for their feedback. Fans seemed initially pleased.

Dan is a fan. “I love the 14-inch display. I think most Tundra owners will go with this screen.”

Tibchy91 has a bigger picture in mind. “Hope this will be in every single Toyota model.”

Chip said “Finally Toyota unleashes a mammoth system. It looks frickin’ amazing!”

Another Dan wondered. “Does it have wireless CarPlay? Thanks!

I am happy to say that yes, 2022 Toyota Tundra features both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Another useful capability is individual user profiles. The cool thing about this is you can set up your profile to include your favorite media and climate settings. Since this info is stored on the cloud, people can bring these stored settings to any Toyota vehicle offering the new multimedia system.

2022 Toyota Tundra Cameras

I got to see some of the new Toyota Tundra cameras and camera angles in action recently. Drivers will be able to see the following views: behind, in front of, overhead, along the sides of, in the bed, and towing viewpoint.

These camera vantagepoints are seen on the new multimedia screens. What impressed me is the clarity of the pictures. I only got to see this inside.

Hopefully this will be equally as impressive out on the streets, in the mountains, and at the lake.

Time for your Toyota Tundra Comments

What do you think of the new Toyota Audio Multimedia? Are you a fan of the 14-inch touch screen, or do you think the 8-inch screen is just fine for you?

What Toyota model are you hoping gets this new system next? RAV4? 4Runner? Highlander? Camry?

So cool. I wished they would have put this new multimedia system into the Corolla Cross since it is the launch of a new car. Also because I’m getting a Corolla Cross and this system is a beauty. So I would I could have it.

Evidently this is the system going in the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra as well. It will be interesting to see how much Toyota and Subaru charge for all the "connected services" and if they will use separate networks or leverage the same infrastructure (such as whether Subaru Starlink is expanding their offerings or whether they are delegating Solterra telematics to Toyota.
