Why the 2020 Ram 1500 is the Big Sales Success Story this Quarter

The COVID-19 virus has forced vehicle sales to crater in the first quarter. Ram appears at this point to be the only brand that finished the quarter with sales increases.

The COVID-19 virus is dealing a crushing blow to the auto industry. Sales for all the automakers, that have reported so far, appear to be dismal except for Fiat Chrysler’s Ram brand. While sales for FCA US are down 10 percent, the Ram brand is up 3 percent, and the 2020 Ram 1500 is up a strong 7 percent. Ram’s performance is critical, because it appears the truck brand is carrying much of the company at the moment.

Strong Ram Brand Sales

Ram pickup truck sales are up 7 percent to 128,805 vehicles. Overall, the Ram brand rose 3 percent to 140,486 vehicles. The 2020 Ram 1500 stunned the industry last year when Ram trucks outsold the Chevrolet Silverado, making it the second best-selling pickup in the U.S. The Ford F-Series is typically the best-selling pickup. Ford has not yet posted its sales figures for the first quarter.

“Our dealers have once again stepped up as pillars of the community as they have continued to provide critical support to our customers on the road,” said U.S. Head of Sales Jeff Kommor. “Many have taken extraordinary steps, ranging from enhanced sanitizing protocols for their showrooms to the offer of home delivery and other concierge services to keep consumers safe. I applaud all of them for their efforts.”

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado light duty also posted strong sales. Silverado sales are up 33.6 percent, but it was not enough to offset other Chevrolet declines. The Chevrolet brand overall is down 3.8 percent this quarter. General Motors is down 7 percent overall.

New Ram Incentives

Fiat Chrysler today unveiled its new “Drive Forward” plan to try and stimulate sales. FCA is offering new incentives to potential buyers. The company is also making it easier for customers to shop online, file the necessary paperwork and take delivery through local dealerships. Buyers with great credit can get 0% financing for 84 months and no payments for 90 days on select 2019 and 2020 models.

At this point there is no indication when the plants will begin producing new trucks again. All of the Ram truck plants shut down last month because of the rapidly spreading COVIC-19 virus and the concern for worker safety.

2020 Ram 1500 Has Won Numerous Awards

The Ram 1500 has won numerous accolades for its design and interior. It was recently lauded as the best luxury vehicle for its use of high-end materials like aged wood and fine leather. Also, Autotrader picks the 2020 Ram 1500 for having one of the 10 Best Car Interiors. This is the third time the Ram has made the list in three years. The Ram 1500 has innovative storage as well, making the vehicle perfect for work and leisure. Some have suggested that pickups like the 2020 Ram 1500 are becoming America’s family car.
