Lucid Roundup: CarPlay Update, Studios And More

Lucid OTA updates every Air with CarPlay as dozens of Apple employees visit the EV maker's Newark, California headquarters. Here's a roundup of all the latest Lucid news.

Lucid's latest over-the-air update will add Apple CarPlay functionality to all Lucid Airs as standard equipment, the company said in a recent email. Air owners will be able to use wired and wireless versions of the system for navigation, media, phone calls and text messages. CarPlay functions are displayed on the Air's Glass Cockpit control screen.

The update is expected to roll out over the next week, with Lucid citing it as another example of the Air being "a true software-defined vehicle, with future-ready hardware to allow it to evolve over time to best meet customer needs long after they take delivery."

Apple Auto Club Visits Lucid
In a separate post on LinkedIn, Lucid revealed that dozens of Apple employees from the tech giant's Auto Club had visited the EV manufacturer's Newark, California headquarters to discuss all things cars and technology. While not exactly plastered all over Lucid's social media channels, the subtle post could be an exercise in keeping the long-standing rumors of a Lucid-Apple collaboration alive.

Lucid also announced the opening of a new Studio location at an upscale open-air mall in Corte Madera, California marking its 35th Studio/service center location in North America and 40th worldwide. The grand opening was held on March 18th with visitors able to test drive Lucid Airs and get to know the car with its interior materials, paint options and VR design buck all on display.

“We have been eager to open a location in the North Bay, an area known for its expansive natural beauty and commitment to acting on climate change. We look forward to welcoming the residents of the North Bay to the Studio in Corte Madera to experience industry-leading technology that underpins Lucid Air, allowing for zero tailpipe emissions without compromising performance.” - Zak Edson, Vice President of Sales and Service, Lucid Group

Buyers can still qualify for a $7500 credit but only with certain configurations and for a limited time. Per the offer's small print:

Lucid CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson took home $556 million in 2021, according to a recent report by AOL. According to SEC filings, Rawlinson's base salary was $575,000 in 2021 and 2022 with the rest of his earnings coming from performance incentives and stock sales. The report states that the Lucid CEO had a "disappointing 2022" which resulted in him not getting a raise, though he did receive a "cash target incentive of 100% of his salary," so it's not all bad.
