Tesla Model 3 - It's Not Dead Yet - In Fact, It's Thriving

The Tesla Model 3 isn't going anywhere anytime soon and in fact, is a very compelling EV.

Tesla Model 3 - It's Not Dead Yet

With all the reports of Tesla's Model 3 "Highland" project coming out and saying that Tesla is changing the Model 3, it makes me realize that Tesla cares about this vehicle. And they wouldn't care about this vehicle if they didn't think it would sell or was valuable to a consumer.

After all, why makes changes to a dying vehicle. I can see Tesla not making many more updates to the Model S and Model X - those vehicles are much more costly and have a much smaller market segment. But the Model 3 - that vehicle is Tesla's most affordable, and I also happen to own one.

The Model 3 RWD is a very compelling EV for those looking to get in at an entry point and get their first experience with an EV. The reason this vehicle is so important is that it has LFP batteries and a driver doesn't have to worry (as much) about charging to 100%. After all, we charge are phones to 100% all the time and don't think twice about it. Granted, our phones are much easier to charge.

EV charging is improving and getting easier. Until we get to the point that charging an EV gets you 80% or more in 10 minutes or less, I don't think EVs will be the majority of cars that people drive. The good news, however, is that this is going to eventually happen with advancements in battery and charging technology.

Tesla Model 3 - It Will Be Around For Many Years

The Model 3 is a sedan - what most people think of when they hear the word car. I consider it a luxury car still, with all the software and features, along with the heated seats and steering wheel. Other companies are trying to out do this vehicle by having more fancy features inside, but I think this is a mistake.

What makes the Model 3 so compelling and why it will stay around a long time is that it's a very good car for what it does - it's a roomy 4-door sedan that fits up to 5 people. It doesn't have Model Y space, but it will definitely have more space than the Tesla compact vehicles that are coming in a couple of years.

If Tesla can keep reducing the costs of the Model 3 RWD, then I think we will see more and more of these vehicles on the road. If Tesla gets the price to around $35,000 like what was originally intended, then this car is going to be one of Tesla's bestsellers. $35,000 is about $10,000 less than the average new car price in the U.S.

Some argue that the Model 3 is a dying platform because of Tesla's upcoming compact and eventual sub-compact vehicles, and I agree that those vehicles will be more affordable. They will not have the space and range of the Model 3 RWD, though, that I can guarantee.

Look for the Model 3 to be around for a long time due to cost reductions and improvements in its technology.

What do you think of the Model 3? Will it be around for a long time?
