What’s The Best Car For Your Teen? Parents Say It's The New Subaru Impreza

Parents Magazine picks the 2020 Subaru Impreza as one of the five best new cars for your teen. See why you want your teen driving it, and why your kid will like it.

When you send your teen driver out in a car, you don’t care about how fast it will get them somewhere, or if it looks cool and is popular with their friends. Parents want their teen driving a car that’s safe, that will get them through any kind of inclement weather, and it’s not going to break down. That’s why Parents Magazine picks the 2020 Subaru Impreza as one of the five best cars for teen drivers.

Parents Magazine first looked for vehicles that received the top 5-star crash test scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It’s not something you want to ever happen, but if your teen is in a crash you want them in the safest car. Subaru Impreza gets a perfect score in all categories from the NHTSA, and it also earned a Top Safety Pick score from the IIHS.

Subaru is known for its all-wheel-drive lineup of vehicles and Impreza sedan and 5-door hatchback models come standard with Symmetrical AWD, and you don’t pay extra to get it. One of Impreza’s best attributes is its ability to get through any kind of weather safely. Your teen won’t be calling you from their cell phone telling you they are stuck in the snow and need a tow truck to pull them out.

Subaru is touted for its reliability and according to IHS Markit, a recent study says 97 percent of Subaru vehicles sold in the last 10 years are still on the road today. This is solid research based on IHS Markit U.S. vehicles in operation vs. total new registrations for MY2009-2018 ending in December 2018.

Another strong reason to buy the Impreza for your teen is resale value. When your teen does sell the car or trade it in, they will get more for it. According to Kelly Blue Book’s (KBB) Best Resale Value picks, Subaru has the least amount of depreciation for its entire lineup.

Another strong reason is cost-to-own. The 2019 IntelliChoice Best Overall Value of the Year, 5-year cost of ownership awards found Subaru has the lowest ownership cost of all popular brands. IntelliChoice also says the Subaru brand gets the Best Overall Value award of any automaker.

Parents say “The Impreza fits all their stuff! When you fold down the back seats, there’s so much room to haul belongings to college or sports equipment for a weekend adventure.”

Parents also named four other 2020 Subaru models to its 20 Best Family Cars of 2020. They chose the Subaru Forester SUV, Ascent family hauler, Crosstrek Hybrid subcompact SUV, and Legacy midsize sedan.

The other four models Parents Magazine pick along with the 2020 Subaru Impreza as Best Cars for Teen Drivers were the Chevrolet Equinox, Toyota Camry, Honda Civic, and Kia Optima. Impreza stands out for its safety, standard all-wheel-drive, reliability, resale value, and low cost-to-own.
